Abstract

The Effectiveness of Discovery Learning to Improve Observation Skill and Mastery of Concept of Chemical Equilibrium. This study aims to describe the effectiveness of discovery learning model to improving the observation skill and mastery of concept chemical equilibrium. This research was conducted at SMAN 15 Bandar Lampung Teaching Year 2018/2019 using quasi experimental method with Pretest Postest Control Group Design. Sampling of purposive sampling of 3 population classes and samples selected class XI Science 2 as experiment class and XI Science 3 as control class. The effectiveness discovery learning in this study was conducted by using n-gain which was significant between experiment class and control class. The size associated with using the effect size. The result obtained by observation skill and mastery of concept are high, and size of influence is great. With this things, the discovery learning model used has effective and has a large effect measure to improve the observation skill and mastery concept of chemical equilibrium. Keywords: chemical equilibrium, discovery learning, mastery of concept, and observation skill. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v19i2.pp111-122

Abstract

The Effect of Problem Solving Based Worksheet to Improve Students Critical Thinking Skill. This research aims to describe the effect of using problem solving based worksheet to improve students critical thinking skills. The research design used is non equivalence pretest-posttest control group design. The sample of this research were students in class X MIPA 2 as control class and X MIPA 3 as experiment class, which were selected by cluster random sampling. The research data consisting of the values of pretest, posttest and n-Gain. The effect of worksheet to improve students critical thinking skill is calculated using the effect test formula. The results of data analysis and calculations show that worksheets applied to the experimental class have a greater effect than the control class. Therefor, it can be concluded that problem solving based worksheet has been taken effect to improve students critical thinking skills.Keyword: problem solving based student worksheet, critical thinking, electrolyte and non-elektrolyte solution. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v19i2.pp75-86

Abstract

Effectiveness of Pre-Lecture Quiz to Improving the Critical Thinking. This research was aimed to describe the effectiveness of Pre-Lecture Quiz to improving student’s critical thinking skill on Arrhenius acid-base topic. The research method used was quasi experimental with non-equivalen pretest-posttest control group design. The sample selection was done by cluster random sampling, and XI IPA 4 is obtained as experimental class and XI IPA 5 as control class. The effectiveness of Pre-Lecture Quiz was showed by the significant difference for average n-Gain of flexible thinking skill between the control and experiment class, for control class was 0.53 with middle categorize and for experiment class was 0.70 with high cateogorize. The conclusion of this research is effective Pre-Lecture Quiz and has a high effect size to improving the ability of critical thinking on Arrhenius acid-base topic. Keywords: critical thinking, Pre-Lecture Quiz, Arrhenius acid-base DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v19i2.pp62-74

Abstract

The Effectiveness of The Problem Based Learning Model in Terms of Students Mathematical Communication Skills. This research aimed to examine the effectiveness of the problem based learning (PBL) model in terms of students mathematical communication skills. The samples of this research were students of VIII D as many 32 students as experiment class and VIII-D as many 29 students as control class which were chosen by cluster random sampling technique. This research used randomized pretest-posttest control group design. The research data was obtained by test technique through mathematical communication skills tests instrument which form essay question. Reaserch data analized using One Side Proportion Test and Mann Whitney U test. By the rasults of data analysis the students who got score 71 or more of mathematical communication skill in PBL class were not more than 60% of all students in that class. Gain score mathematical communication skill who treated by PBL more than the students who treated by non PBL. The conclusion of this research is that the PBL model was not effective in term of students mathematical communication skills, but the student’s mathematical communication skills who took PBL was higher than students who took non PBL.keywords: problem based learning, mathematical communication, effectivenes DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v19i2.pp99-110

Abstract

The Effectiveness of Discovery Learning Model in Terms of Students’ Mathematical Communication Skills. This quasi experimental research aimed to examine the effectiveness of discovery learning model in terms of students’ mathematical communication skills. The population of this research was all students of grade VII of SMP Negeri 26 Bandarlampung in even semester in academic year 2018/2019 as many as 233 students, that were distributed into eight classes. By using purposive sampling technique, two classes were taken as the sample that were VII B class as many as 30 students and VII D class as many as 29 students. This research used the pretest-posttest control group design and the data collecting technique was test. The data obtained from this research was the score of students’ mathematical communication skills. Based on the result of -test and proportion test using 5% of significance level, it was concluded that discovery learning model was not effective in terms of students’ mathematical communication skills. However, the mathematical communication skills of students who following discovery learning was higher than mathematical communication skills of students who following conventional learning. Keywords: discovery learning, effectiveness, mathematical communication skills DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v19i2.pp87-98
