Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has taken aback everyone that led to living unexpectedly in an environment called the new normal. One of the sectors seriously affected by this health crisis is education. With no face-to-face classes until a vaccine has been discovered, the Department of Education-Philippines (DepEd) believed that education should continue in school year 2020-2021 through online and other alternative modalities. The teachers in a private sectarian school in Manila began preparing as early as June 2020 leading to the creation of a learning continuity plan. One of the subjects in the junior high school seriously affected in doing online teaching and learning is Science. This study aims to explore and understand the experiences and challenges of the junior high school Science teachers after one term or almost three months of teaching in the new normal. The study found out that Science teachers were prepared and the curriculum was modified. Instructional materials were enhanced and various challenges were met like student discipline, delivery and execution of learning tasks, limited time for the implementation of the competencies, and student participation. Keywords: teaching science online, challenges of online teaching, science teachers creativity, initiatives and opportunities.  DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v21i2.pp146-162

Abstract

This research aims to identify student learning motivation in online practicum courses during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study used a quantitative survey method toward 117 biology students at the Walisongo State Islamic University. Data were collected using five-point Likert scale questionnaire. The data show that students learning motivation is in good criteria (75.47%). The percentage breakdown and criteria for each indicator are as follows: concentration 77.9% (good), curiosity 81.06% (very good), enthusiasm 66.67% (good), independence 82.64% (very good) ), readiness 77.78% (good), enthusiasm 66.7% (good), never give up 72.82% (good), and confidence 78.21% (good). Abstract

This research intends to reveal the increasing of senior high school students' mathematical understanding and mathematical disposition. The study involved 124 students from ordinary private schools and Islamic boarding private school. The research method used was quasi-experiment pretest and posttest control group design. The research goals are to examine students’ mathematical understanding ability and mathematical dispositions based on the type of school, type of learning, and students' prior mathematical abilities. The results showed that mathematical understanding and mathematical dispositions of students who received problem-based learning assisted by mathematics kit (PBL-MK) was better than students who only received PBL. Islamic boarding schools students can show better mathematical understanding when studying with PBL-MK. Abstract

The educational paradigm, which was originally face-to-face based, has shifted to virtual education or e-learning especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. Student readiness is an important factor in the success of e-learning. In this study, an analysis will be carried out on the readiness of students in online learning and the relationship and its effect on learning outcomes. This research procedure includes several stages, namely: (1) adapting the instrument based on a literature review, (2) analyzing the validity of the content and distributing the instrument to the research sample, and (3) evaluating research data, examining correlation, and its effect on learning outcomes. The data obtained were analyzed statistically through reliability analysis and Pearson correlation. The research sample consisted of 120 students of chemistry education at the FKIP, University of Lampung. Based on the results of statistical tests obtained results. Based on the research results, it was found that all dimensions of student readiness in online learning had a significant positive correlation with learning outcomes with a sig <0.05. Based on the linear regression test, it was found that student readiness in online learning had an effect on learning outcomes by 20.6%. Abstract

Efforts to grow HOTS in high school students are very important to provide for 21st century skills and the demands of the industrial revolution era 4.0. One of these efforts is by providing teaching materials that can stimulate HOTS. This research was aimed to develop a fluid e-module with a valid, effective, and practical STEM approach to stimulate HOTS for high school students. We used the ADDIE R & D model research method which consists of five stages, which are analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The developed e-module product was examined for validity, legibility, effectiveness, and practicality tests. The e-module validity test was conducted by five physics learning experts using a Likert scale questionnaire instrument and analyzed using the percentage technique. The legibility test was conducted by five high school students using a Likert scale questionnaire. The practicality test was carried out in senior high schools in Bandar Lampung using a Likert scale questionnaire. The effectiveness test was carried out using the one-group pretest-posttest design. The effectiveness of the dynamic fluid e-module in stimulating HOTS was determined based on the N-gain value and the difference between the pretest and posttest means. The data were analyzed using Wilcoxon Sign Rank test.
