Abstract

This reserach aimed to identify the morphological chracteristics and phylogenetic relationship of Dragon Fruit (Hylocereus sp.) plants. The research was started from April 2017 until May 2017 at Sitinjo district of  Dairi Regency North Sumatera with survey methode using dragon fruit descriptor of Hylocereus by International Union For The Protection Of New Varieties (UPOV). Sampling technique using purposive sampling. Exploration results was obtained 24 genotypes of Dragon Fruit plants based on identified fruit morphological characteristic. Based on clustering analyze the closest genetic relationship is on genotype G17 and G23 which has 2 differences of 7 characteristic with dissimilarity coeficient is 1,000 and the furthest genetic relationship is on genotype G18 and G26 with dissimilarity coeficien is 4,796 which has 5 differences of 7 characteristic.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to identification of morphological characteristic and kinship of sweet potato at Kabupaten Simalungun and Kabupaten Dairi. The research well done in regency Simalungun dan regency Dairi, North Sumatera at March to June 2017 with descriptive survey using characterzed based on International Board for Plant Genetic Resources (IBPGR) standard and purposive random sampling technique. The result of this research indicate there 21 (twenty one) genotype of sweet potato that in Kabupaten Simalungun consists of Kecamatan Silimakuta (G1, G2, G3, and G4), Purba (G5, G6 and G7), Dolok Silau (G8), Pamatang Silimahuta (G9), Dolok Perdamean (G10), Hutabayu Raja (G11) in Kabupaten Dairi consists of Kecamatan Parbuluan (G12, G13, G14, G15, and G16), Sidikalang (G17 and G18), Sumbul (G19 and G20), and Sitinjo (G21) with closest kinship is G18 and G20 with a coefecient similarity 8,541 and farthes kinship is G4 and G5with a coefecient similarity 116,338.

Abstract

ABSTRACT   Palm oil production depend on the rain and the age composition of plants. The purpose of this research was to determine the effect of rainfall and rainy day as well as the correlation of both on palm oil production in plants aged 7, 10 and 13 years. This research used primary data available in company administration, in the form data of production of fresh fruit bunches (FFB); componen production data as total bunches, average bunches weight, and total of productive trees in 2013, 2014,2015.  Rainfall and rainy days data were taken a year before the production data in 2012, 2013, 2014. Analysis method used are double linier regression and correlation analysis. Model tested by classic asumption consists of normality test, heteroskedasticity test, multicollinearity, and autocorellations test by using statistic software SPSS.v.20 for windows. The result of t-partial test showed that rainfall variable had an effect not significantly on age 7, 10 and 13 years at alpha 5% (Sig > α 0.05). While on rainy day variable showed that rainy day had significant effect at age 7 year at alpha 5% (Sig < α 0.05)  while at age 10 and 13 year rainy day had an effect not real. While on the regression analysis shows that rain fall and rainy day simultaneously variables unsignificanted with  alpha 5% (Sig <α 0.05) to increase the production of FFB at the age of 7, and 10 years. While rain fall and rainy day variables significanted to increase the production of FFB at the age of 13 years. The influence of rainfall and rainy days the FFB production each from ages 7, 10 and 13 years  was 50,4%, 44,7%, and 43,8% influence by other variables not included on the model. Correlation results in plants was 7, 10, and 13 years with two-way analysis test at 1% level showed variable rainfall and rainy days have a strong relationship, and positive direction. Abstract

ABSTRACT   Taro tuber is one of the few commodities tubers that can be used as an alternative source of food other besides rice that is both healthy and safety. Cultivating of taro and increase production to do some of them use the alternative media composition suitable cropping and NPK fertilizer. This research was conducted in Jalan Klambir Lima Kecamatan Sunggal, Medan, with altitude ± 25 meters above sea surface began  from April to Juli 2016. This research used factorial randomized block design with two factors. The first factor was growing media composition (top soil (control)); top soil : sand (1:1)); top soil : sand : empty bunches of palm oil compost (1 : 1: 1)); top soil : sand : empty bunches of palm oil compost (2: 1 : 1)); top soil : sand : empty bunches of palm oil compost (3: 1: 1)) and the second factor is doses of NPK fertilizer (0; 2; 4; 6 g/polibag). Parameter observed was plant height, total leaf area, plant fresh weight, shoot dry weight, and  root dry weight. The result of this research showed that growing media composition were significantly effect to plant height parameter 2 week after planting, total leaf area, plant fresh weight, shoot dry weight, root dry weight, and ratio of shoot and root. doses of NPK fertilizer composition were significantly effect to total leaf area parameter, plant fresh weight, and shoot dry weight. Interaction of growing media composition and dose of NPK fertilizer were significantly effect to plant height 2-9 week after planting and plant fresh weight. Abstract

This research aim to know the characteristic of some varieties of soybean with giving BAP and GA3 on flooded. The research was conducted at Land Faculty of Agriculture, University of Sumatra Utara, Medan, Indonesia with altitude ± 25 meters in April 2017 until August 2017 using a randomized block design (RAK) with three factors, i. e : varieties (Grobogan, Argomulyo and Demas 1),hormone BAP and GA3 (0 ppm, BAP 30 ppm + GA3 100 ppm, BAP 60 ppm + GA3 200 ppm, and flooding (control and waterlogged. The parameters observed were plant height, leaf number, root volume, number of plants pods, number of seeds of crop, protein totale, chlorophyll totale, and analysis of super oxide dismutase  enzymes. The results showed that varieties significantly affect plant height 2, 3, 5 MST, leaf number 3, 4 MST, root volume, number of plant pods and number of seeds of crop. Hormone treatment significantly affected plant height 2, 3, 4 MST, and root volume. flooding significantly affect chlorophyll analysis.number of plants pods and number of seeds of crop. Interaction varieties and hormone significantly affected plant height 2, 3 MST, leaf number 4 MST and root volume. Interaction varieties and flooding significantly affect root volume. Interaction between varieties, ZPT and flooding significantly affect the root volume.

Abstract

The availability of nutrients in the soil is a major factor affected the growth and production of plants. This study aims to determine the response of compost enriched chicken egg shell and beneficial microbes (rhyzobium + mycorrhiza) to some aspects of soil properties of Inseptisol as well as the growth and production of soybeans. This research was conducted in field trial UPT Balai Induk Palawija Tanjung Selamat and Soil Biology Laboratory Faculty of Agriculture University of North Sumatra. This research used was a Factorial Random Block Design. The first factor was chicken egg shell enriched consist of 4 treatments 0 ton/ha, 10 ton/ha, 20 ton/ha, 30 ton/ha and second factor was beneficial microbe (rhyzobium + mycorrhiza) consist of 2 treatmenst 0 g/polybag and 10 g/polybag. The results showed that the enriched compost enriched chicken egg shell increased the soil pH, C-organic, Ca-exchanged, shoot dry weight , the amoont of root nodule, percentage of degree of root infected by mycorrhiza, and weight of 100 seeds and the application of beneficial microbes increased root nodule and root infection degree.

Abstract

This research aimed to identify the morphological characteristics and phylogenetic relationship of several genotypes of coconut in Silau Laut district Asahan regency Sumatera Utara. The research was conducted from April to Mei 2017 by survey method based on coconut descriptor of International Plant Genetic Resources Institute (IPGRI) with sampling technique using accidental sampling. This result of research showed that in Silau Laut district there were 27 genotypes of coconut been identified. The result of morphologycal characteristics for crown shape (spherical, hemispherical, X-shaped ‘silhouette’), flower shape (normal and additional spathes or bracts), fruit shape (oblong, ovoid, angled, round), nut shape (pointed, ovoid, almost round, oblate). The closest phylogenetic relationship is G41 and G42 with coefficient dissimilarity 3,00 and farthest phylogenetic relationship is G40 and G45 with coefficient dissimilarity 12,53. The result of dendogam showed at scale 18 was formed 5 goups. Phylogenetic relationship of between genotypes of coconut in Silau Laut district Asahan regency still have a close level relationship.

Abstract

The objective of the research was to study biology of the Elaeidobius kamerunicus (Coleoptera:Curculionidae) on the oil palm plants in the highlands areas. The research was conducted at PT Perkebunan Nusantara IV Bah Birung Ulu and Laboratory of Plant Pest and Disease Indonesian Oil Palm Research Institute (PPKS) Marihat from November 2016 to April 2017. It was done using by descriptive method. The results showed that the life cycle of E. kamerunicus was 18.6 ± 3.05 days, egg phase, 2.33 ± 0.57 days, the first instar larvae,  2 ± 1.73 days, the second  instar larvae, 5 ± 1 days, and the third instar larvae, 2.66 ± 1.15days and the pupa  4.66 ± 0.57 days. Age of male, 10.72 ± 1.4 days faster than female 14.44  ±1.35 days. Preoviposition period was 2 ± 0 days, while oviposition  9.84 ± 0.96 days, and post oviposition 4 ± 0.89 days. The number of eggs laid by a female during her lifetime was 20.4 ± 2.6. Keywords: Elaeidobius kamerunicus, biology, oil palm, highland areas.

Abstract

Air merupakan faktor yang sangat mempengaruhi pertumbuhan dan produksi tanaman.Ketersediaan air pada tanaman karet di lapangan sangat dipengaruhi oleh besarnya curah hujan.Jumlah air yang tidak sesuai dapat memberikan dampak negatif terhadap produktivitas karet.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh curah hujan dan hari hujan serta hubungan korelasi keduanya terhadapproduktifitas tanaman karet berumur 9, 13 dan 16 tahun. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di Kebun Tanah Besih PT.Socfin indonesia di Kecamatan Tebing Syahbandar, Kabupaten Serdang Bedagai, Provinsi Sumatera Utara, pada bulan Januari 2017 sampai dengan selesai. Penelitian ini mengunakan data sekunder yang tersedia di administrasi kebun.Data sekunder untuk keperluan analisis meliputi data produktifitas lateks tahun 2013, 2014, dan 2015; data curah hujan dan data hari hujan bulanan tahun 2012, 2013 dan 2014.Metode analisis yang digunakan ialah analisis regresi linear berganda dan analisis korelasi. Model diujikelayakannya dengan uji asumsiklasik meliputi uji normalitas, uji heteroskedastisitas, uji multikolinearitas, serta uji autokorelasi dengan menggunakan alat bantu statistik SPSS.v.22 for windows. Dari uji asumsi klasik yang dilakukan untuk mengetahui kelayakan persamaaan regresi linear berganda, disimpulkan bahwa persamaan regresi pada tanaman karet umur 9, 13, dan 16 tahun telah memenuhi syarat. Hasil analisis regresi menunjukkan bahwa variabel curah hujan dan hari hujan secara parsial maupun simultan berpengaruh tidak nyata terhadap peningkatan produktifitas lateks pada tanaman karet pada umur 9, 13 dan 16 tahun. Kata kunci : curah hujan, hari hujan, produktifitas lateks.

Abstract

This research was conducted to find out the effect of coconut water concentration and the duration of true shallot seed soaking on the growth and production of shallot. This research was conducted on community farm at Jalan Bunga Rampai II Gang Saudara, Kelurahan Simalingkar B, Kecamatan Medan Tuntungan, Medan, began from April to August 2017. The research used a Factorial Randomized Block Design with 2 treatment factors: coconut water concentration at 5 levels: 0; 25; 50; 75; 100 %, and duration of seed soaking at 3 levels: 60; 120; 180 minutes. The parameters observed were number of plant height at 2 to 7 weeks after transplanting (WAT), bulb diameter, and dry bulb weight. The result of this research showed that coconut water concentration had no significant effect on all observation parameter. The duration of seed soaking treatment had significant effect on plant height and dry bulb weight. The highest dry bulb weight was obtained at 120 minutes of seed soaking. The interaction of coconut water concentration and the duration of true shallot seed soaking treatment had no significant effect on all observation parameters.Keywords: coconut water concentration, duration of seed soaking, true shallot seed
