Abstract

The development of social media has created a new space for the dissemination of philosophical discourse. This study aims to examine how the narrative of Javanese philosophy is constructed in the YouTube content of Frans Magnis Suseno. The method used is semiotic analysis based on Roland Barthes' approach, which distinguishes between denotative, connotative, and mythic meanings in both visual and verbal texts. The analysis reveals that Frans Magnis conveys core values of Javanese philosophy such as eling, nrimo, and sumeleh through simple, communicative narratives adapted to today's social context. These narratives not only popularize Javanese philosophy but also make it more accessible to younger generations through a modern visual format. This study highlights the significant potential of new media in transforming traditional discourses into a more inclusive digital domain.

Abstract

This study aims to examine Sheikh Yasin al-Fadani within the discipline of Hadith sciences. As a Nusantara scholar who was active in Makkah during the 20th century, Sheikh Yasin played a significant role in maintaining the integrity and continuity of the sanad, which is a fundamental aspect of Islamic tradition and Hadith authentication. Through a systematic literature review of his works, articles, books, and other relevant primary sources, this study highlights Sheikh Yasin’s methodological rigor and scholarly impact. The findings reveal that his dedication to collecting sanad produced one of the most comprehensive chains of transmission still referenced today, thereby contributing to the sustainable preservation of Islamic scholarly heritage.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the tradition of sajen in Javanese society through the lens of social theology. The research problem focuses on how the community interprets sajen and how social theology can be applied to analyze this phenomenon. Employing a qualitative method with a field study approach in Mawar Village, Langkat Regency, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal two primary dimensions of offering : first, as a spiritual expression related to the transcendent dimension of human existence; and second, as a social instrument that strengthens solidarity and cultural identity within the Javanese community. The continued practice of offering can therefore be understood not merely as a religious ritual but also as a manifestation of symbolic values expressed in the social sphere, which in turn reinforces communal cohesion and harmony.

Abstract

The current global ecological crisis reflects not only material environmental degradation but also a profound spiritual crisis of modern humanity. This article aims to analyze the concept of theophany in the thought of Seyyed Hossein Nasr as a metaphysical foundation for establishing an ecological ethic rooted in Islamic spirituality. The study employs a philosophical-interpretative approach with a qualitative hermeneutic method, reviewing primary and secondary literature, including Nasr’s major works. Thematic and hermeneutic analyses reveal the ontological, epistemological, ethical, and socio-theological dimensions of theophanic perspectives on nature. Findings indicate that, for Nasr, all reality manifests God (theophany), making nature a reflection of the Divine presence that must be safeguarded with moral and spiritual responsibility. Modern ecological crises arise from the loss of theophanic awareness, leading to the exploitation of nature without recognition of its sacred dimension. Restoring human consciousness to a sacred cosmic order positions theophany as the foundation of ecological ethics that integrates faith, knowledge, and daily practices. This study underscores that addressing environmental crises requires not only technological or policy interventions but a spiritual revolution that affirms humanity’s cosmic relationship with God and creation. The article contributes to the development of contemporary Islamic ecological philosophy and offers a conceptual framework for environmentally responsible practices grounded in transcendent values.

Abstract

Wasatiyah Islamic preaching represents an approach that emphasizes balance, moderation, and justice in conveying Islamic teachings. In today’s complex and pluralistic societies, this approach is highly relevant for maintaining social harmony, preventing radicalism, and reinforcing humanitarian values. The present study aims to examine the urgency of Wasatiyah Islamic preaching in fostering an inclusive, dynamic, and civilized Muslim community. Wasatiyah preaching is not limited to theological aspects but also extends to the social, cultural, and political dimensions of the ummah. The findings indicate that the strategic implementation of Wasatiyah preaching can provide an alternative solution to the challenges posed by globalization and the crisis of religious identity among Muslims.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the pedagogical role of Islamic religious teachers in guiding students’ self-control at Madrasah Aliyah Zakiyun Najah, located in Firdaus Village, Sei Rampah District, Serdang Bedagai Regency. The research employs a field study method with a descriptive-analytical narrative approach. Primary data were obtained through direct observation and in-depth interviews with Islamic religious teachers and seventh-grade students as key informants. Data analysis was conducted through stages of reduction, categorization, and narrative interpretation to reveal the pedagogical meaning of the implemented teaching practices. The findings indicate that Islamic religious teachers play a strategic role through three main approaches: habituation of moral values, demonstration of moral exemplarity in daily behavior, and the application of educational sanctions that emphasize character formation. These approaches contribute to the development of students’ religious character, internal discipline, and the ability to regulate emotions and actions in accordance with Islamic ethical norms.

Abstract

This study aims to compare the effectiveness of the Qishah (storytelling) and lecture methods in teaching Islamic Cultural History at the secondary school level. Employing a mixed-methods approach with a convergent parallel design, quantitative data were gathered through student questionnaires and qualitative data through in-depth interviews with subject teachers. Quantitative data were analyzed descriptively and comparatively to examine differences in means, variances, and standard deviations between the two methods, while qualitative data were analyzed thematically to explore teachers’ insights and experiences in instructional practice. The findings indicate that both methods are effective in enhancing students’ understanding and engagement; however, the Qishah method demonstrates greater impact on affective and motivational dimensions by creating a more meaningful learning experience. Meanwhile, the lecture method remains valuable for reinforcing conceptual and structural comprehension.

Abstract

Leadership is recognized as a decisive factor in determining the success of educational institutions, influencing not only administrative performance but also the quality of teaching and learning outcomes. Using a quantitative research approach, data were collected from students at Madrasah Aliyah Swasta (MAS) Nahdhatul Islam Mancang, located in Selesai Subdistrict, Langkat Regency, through structured questionnaires distributed to 100 upper-grade students. The results reveal that the principal’s leadership style has a significant effect on student achievement, particularly through dimensions such as supervision, motivation, communication, and moral exemplarity. In Islamic education, leadership extends beyond managerial functions to encompass moral and spiritual responsibilities, reflecting values of uswah hasanah, syura, and amanah. The findings emphasize that effective leadership not only enhances academic success but also strengthens the moral and spiritual formation of students, thereby supporting the holistic goals of Islamic education.
