Applied Linguistics Innovative Approaches and Emerging Trends is a scholarly journal published twice a year in March and September under the patronage of Yayasan Nurul Iman Muara Gading Mas. The periodical welcomes submissions pertaining to language-related problems and solutions in realworld contexts. The aim of the journal is to publish articles that appeal to its wide readership and build connections between academic theories, discourses, and investigative methods across diverse fields of study. Research published in applied linguistics typically has practical relevance for institutional practices in education, the workplace, healthcare, legal systems, and media. The journal invites contributions that provide critical reflection on current, cutting-edge theory and practice within the discipline. The journals Forum section is intended to stimulate debate between authors and the broader applied linguistics community and allow a faster turnaround for short pieces. Forum articles typically provide commentary on research issues or professional practices or respond to a published paper.

Abstract

This study examines the alignment between the employment of alumni from the Indonesian Literature Study Program at Universitas Alkhairaat and the field of knowledge they pursued. To achieve these goals, the researcher conducted a qualitative descriptive analysis of alumni who graduated in the past two years, using an online tracer study questionnaire. The results were presented in chart to facilitate the understanding of quantitative data. The findings revealed that most alumni from the program have entered the workforce. 78% of participants stated that the courses offered in the program were relevant to their current jobs, while 22% found no relevance. The researcher concluded that this mismatch could be attributed to the competitive job market and workforce saturation, leading employers to seek graduates with specialized skills and unique value.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the forms of the female image in Nawal El Saadawi's novel Perempuan di Titik Nol and to identify the forms of discrimination portrayed in the novel. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method. The primary data source utilized in this study consists of words and sentences from Nawal El Saadawi's novel Perempuan di Titik Nol, while the secondary data sources include relevant books and journals. Data collection was conducted using reading and note-taking techniques. The data analysis utilized content analysis techniques. The results of this study found 33 instances of female imagery, which are categorized into three types: physical image (14 instances), psychological image (10 instances), and social image (9 instances), with the physical image being the most dominant. Meanwhile, regarding the forms of discrimination, 30 instances were found, divided into five aspects: marginalization (5 instances), subordination (5 instances), negative stereotypes (7 instances), double burden (3 instances), and physical and psychological violence against women (10 instances). The most dominant form of discrimination found was physical and psychological violence against women.

Abstract

This study explores the mimetic representation of the protagonist's lived realities in Sapardi Djoko Damono’s novel, Sunyi Adalah Minuman Keras, utilizing M.H. Abrams' mimetic approach. The research employs a qualitative descriptive method, with data collected through intensive reading and note-taking techniques. Content analysis was applied to consolidate, sample, code, reduce, and describe the textual data. The findings reveal 30 data points categorized into four distinct aspects of the protagonist's, Rara's, lived realities. First, the familial reality highlights the tension where her mother pressures her regarding marriage and grandchildren. Second, the romantic reality illustrates a sudden breakup caused by her partner's demands to stop her online book-selling activities. Third, the social reality exposes the destructive nature of false rumors, such as pregnancy, spread by peers in her neighborhood and online. Finally, the social media reality emerges as the most dominant aspect, comprising 15 data points. It depicts Rara's deep sense of alienation, exhaustion, and entrapment within the digital world. Although she relies on social media to promote her work and interact with fans, it offers only an illusion of connection, surrounded by a "lonely crowd" making arbitrary comments. Ultimately, the study concludes that the protagonist's existence is overwhelmingly consumed by the monotonous and isolating nature of modern technology, reflecting a profound contemporary social reality.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the story construction and social structure in Ahmad Tohari’s short story Rumah Yang Terang. This research employs a qualitative method, utilizing a structuralist approach to dissect intrinsic elements and the sociology of literature to understand the represented social realities. Data collection was conducted through close reading and note-taking, followed by content analysis encompassing unitizing, coding, and inferring procedures. The findings indicate that the story's construction serves not only as a narrative framework but also as a medium to represent the tension between tradition and modernity. Sociologically, the short story captures complex social structural dynamics, where patriarchal authority within the family clashes with the hegemonic social control of the rural community. These findings confirm that individual acceptance of modernity is often hindered by communal stigma and established social stratification. This study concludes that Ahmad Tohari successfully codifies rural cultural friction into a concise narrative, reaffirming literature’s position as a reflective social document.

Abstract

This study describes the main character's personality structure in Sri Puji Hartini's novel Aku Tak Membenci Hujan, based on Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalytic theory including id, ego, and superego. Driven by the character's trauma-induced inner conflicts, this qualitative descriptive study analyzes textual quotations comprising words, sentences, and dialogues gathered via reading and note-taking techniques. Results show that Karang Samudra Daneswara’s personality is dominated by the id, manifested through emotional outbursts and instinctive drives when facing various conflicts. The ego balances these impulses with reality, while the superego provides moral considerations and deep guilt. This intense id dominance stems from childhood trauma and severe affection deprivation, shaping an emotional character filled with ongoing psychological battles. Ultimately, the novel effectively portrays human psychological complexity through the main character's inner struggles, proving how past experiences heavily distort an individual's current mental development and behavior.
