Abstract

Iron deficiency anemia is a common health problem among adolescent girls due to increased iron requirements during growth and menstruation. Lack of knowledge about anemia prevention and low adherence to iron tablet consumption are the main factors contributing to the high prevalence of anemia. This community service activity aims to improve adolescent girls' understanding of anemia and encourage compliance with iron supplementation through health education and iron supplementation. The method used in this activity includes interactive lecture-based health education and discussions, as well as the provision of iron tablets. Evaluation was conducted by comparing participants' knowledge levels before and after counseling. The results showed a significant increase in participants' understanding of anemia after the intervention. This program contributes to the development of knowledge in health education by providing effective strategies for anemia prevention in adolescent girls. It is hoped that this activity can serve as a model for sustainable school health programs.

Abstract

Water and environmental management issues in rural areas remain a significant challenge that directly affects community well-being. One of the most common problems encountered is waterlogging caused by high rainfall and the limited availability of natural drainage systems. To address this issue, biopore technology has been implemented in Lipukasi Village, Tanete Rilau Sub-district, Barru Regency. This program was also designed to raise public awareness of the importance of water conservation and sustainable environmental management through the use of biopores. The implementation method employed a participatory approach, involving local residents directly in the construction of biopore infiltration holes at several strategic locations within the village. The activity focused not only on technical aspects but also emphasized education through training and community outreach. Evaluation results indicate that the application of biopore technology has had a positive impact, marked by improved soil absorption capacity, reduced water stagnation, and increased soil fertility due to natural composting processes occurring within the biopores. The success of this program demonstrates that biopore technology offers a practical and environmentally friendly solution for water management in rural areas.

Abstract

Clean and Healthy Living Behavior is a fundamental aspect in efforts to improve public health standards. The implementation of PHBS in school environments serves a strategic purpose: to empower students, educators, and the surrounding community with the knowledge, willingness, and ability to adopt healthy behaviors, while contributing to the creation of a clean and healthy school environment. A PHBS education program was conducted at SD 59 Garotin with the aim of enhancing sixth-grade students’ knowledge and awareness regarding the importance of maintaining personal health, particularly through proper handwashing practices. The methods employed in this activity included lectures, interactive discussions, and hands-on practice. The program took place on February 11, 2025, and involved active participation from the students. Evaluation results indicated a significant improvement in students’ understanding of PHBS concepts and practices following the intervention.. In conclusion, the education program implemented at SD 59 Garotin successfully improved sixth-grade students' health literacy, especially in the area of hand hygiene. As a follow-up, it is recommended that similar programs be implemented in other schools to broaden the reach and positive impact on school-age children’s health behaviors

Abstract

Anemia is a common health problem among adolescents, especially girls, due to insufficient iron intake required by the body. This community service activity aims to increase adolescents' knowledge about anemia and its prevention efforts through education conducted at SMA Negeri 5 Pinrang. The methods used include activity planning, delivery of educational materials using presentation media, and evaluation through pre-tests and post-tests. A total of 20 twelfth-grade students participated as respondents in this activity. The evaluation results showed a significant improvement in students’ knowledge levels. Before the education session, 10% of respondents were in the poor category, and 90% in the good category. After the session, all respondents showed improvement, with 90% in the excellent category and 10% in the good category. This activity contributes to strengthening health literacy among students and provides an educational-based approach as a promotive-preventive strategy in addressing the problem of anemia in adolescents. Abstract

In an increasingly sophisticated and modern age, people's eating habits that prioritize convenience over health have led to an increase in non-communicable diseases such as diabetes mellitus. Diabetes mellitus is one of the most common diseases suffered by the Indonesian people, even Indonesia is ranked 7th in the world with the highest number of diabetics according to the International Diabetes Federation (IDF). Adolescents are a high-risk group because they often consume unhealthy foods without a healthy lifestyle. Based on these conditions, health promotion activities regarding the risk of diabetes mellitus were carried out at SMAN 4 Sidrap by students of the Public Health Study Program of Muhammadiyah University of Parepare. The purpose of this activity was to increase adolescents' knowledge about diabetes mellitus, including symptoms, risk factors, and preventive measures. The method used was education through lectures with PowerPoint media to 26 class XII students. The material presented included normal blood sugar levels, classic symptoms of diabetes, risk groups, and eight steps for early prevention of diabetes. The results of the activity showed an increase in participants' understanding of diabetes mellitus, which was shown by active participation during the discussion session. Health education like this is important to be carried out on an ongoing basis to foster early awareness of non-communicable diseases, especially among adolescents
