Abstract

The Tahfidz Al-Qur’an program is one of the character education strategies implemented at SDN Sibreh Aceh Besar. This program aims to shape students into religious, disciplined, and morally upright individuals by instilling the habit of Qur’anic memorization from an early age. However, the effectiveness of this program needs to be systematically examined through evaluation, monitoring, and reflection as part of character-based educational management. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach using purposive sampling. Informants include the principal, tahfidz supervisors, and tahfidz teachers. Data were collected through non-participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles et al. model, which includes data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the tahfidz program is evaluated through both formative and summative models, with assessment aspects covering attitude, recitation, knowledge, and skills. Monitoring is conducted in layers by the principal, tahfidz teachers, and the education department, using benchmarks such as memorization achievement, discipline, and student character. Reflection is facilitated through personal approaches, outdoor learning activities, and written feedback, enabling students to express their learning experiences authentically. The integration of evaluation, monitoring, and reflection plays a vital role in shaping students’ character holistically. Although the memorization of Juz 30 has not yet reached the expected target, the ongoing mentoring process demonstrates strong potential in cultivating a generation of Qur’an memorizers with noble character.

Abstract

In the context of Islamic Religious Education (IRE), accurate scoring techniques not only reflect students’ cognitive achievement but also support character development and the internalization of spiritual values. This study aims to explore in depth the understanding of IRE teachers regarding scoring techniques for multiple-choice and essay-type tests, as well as their implications for the learning process at MTsS Azzanjabil in Bireuen District. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data analysis follows the model of Miles, Huberman & Saldaña (2014), which includes data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The findings reveal that teachers still rely on conventional scoring methods for multiple-choice tests, assigning fixed scores without weighting or correction for guessing. In contrast, for essay-type tests, teachers demonstrate a more nuanced understanding by considering the difficulty level of questions and the quality of student responses. The scoring practices have shown a positive impact on students’ learning motivation, although they are not yet fully supported by standardized scoring guidelines or rubrics. Teachers’ understanding of scoring techniques has significant implications for the quality of evaluation and the overall learning process in IRE. Strengthening teacher competence through training and the development of structured scoring guidelines is essential to ensure that assessments are conducted more objectively, proportionally, and in alignment with the values of Islamic education.

Abstract

Affective assessment is a crucial component of Islamic education, as it plays a significant role in shaping students’ character and moral values. However, in practice, affective assessment is often overlooked or conducted without a systematic instrument. This study aims to analyze the ability of Islamic Education (PAI) teachers to develop affective assessment instruments at Madrasah Aliyah Syamsuddhuha Dewantara, North Aceh. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach through a field study. The subjects were PAI teachers teaching in grades X, XI, and XII. Data were collected using observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. The data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was ensured through triangulation of sources and methods. The findings reveal that while PAI teachers are aware of the importance of affective assessment, they still face challenges in designing valid and structured instruments. Some teachers have begun implementing procedures such as formulating indicators, drafting statements, and developing scoring rubrics, but these efforts are not yet consistent. Affective assessment is still predominantly conducted through informal observation, without supporting documentation that can be accounted for administratively. This study highlights the urgent need to enhance teachers’ competence in developing affective assessment instruments. Proper and systematic assessment not only improves evaluation quality but also strengthens the goals of Islamic education in nurturing students with noble character and integrity.

Abstract

This study aims to conceptually examine the development of Islamic Religious Education (IRE) instructional materials using mailing lists as an innovative learning strategy in the digital era. Employing a qualitative approach with content analysis, the research explores primary and secondary literature related to instructional material development, digital media, and IRE pedagogy. The analysis was conducted through descriptive, textual, and reflective methods to interpret the meaning, structure, and relevance of mailing list–based instructional content. The findings indicate that mailing lists hold significant potential as an alternative learning medium that facilitates material distribution, religious discourse, and character formation among students. The development of instructional materials via mailing lists can follow the Four-D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate), which is adaptable to technological advancements and learner needs. Mailing lists also support digital literacy, independent learning, and active participation in IRE instruction. Thus, the development of IRE instructional materials through mailing lists represents an innovative strategy that not only addresses pedagogical challenges in the digital age but also strengthens students’ spiritual values and character holistically.

Abstract

Learning evaluation is a crucial component of education, including in aqidah (Islamic creed) learning, which emphasizes both conceptual and spiritual understanding. At SD IT Diana As Saffa Islamic, Lhokseumawe City, multiple-choice tests are the primary method used by teachers to assess students’ comprehension. This study employs a qualitative approach, utilizing a descriptive method and a field research design. Data were collected through observation, structured interviews with teachers and students, and documentation studies. Data analysis was conducted through reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing based on the Miles et al. model. The results indicate that the multiple-choice evaluation is considered effective by teachers and positively received by students. Teachers adjust the difficulty level of questions according to grade level, and students feel supported by the post-evaluation discussions. However, challenges were identified in the scoring techniques, including the use of conventional scoring without considering question difficulty levels and the absence of standardized scoring guidelines. Multiple-choice evaluation offers advantages in terms of efficiency and objectivity, but it is not yet fully capable of measuring the depth of understanding and the values of aqidah. Teachers need training in item construction and valid, fair scoring techniques. They also need to adopt reflective and exploratory approaches to better support the holistic goals of Islamic education.
