Abstract

Focusing on two main elements—staff training and guest interaction—this paper investigates the growing relevance of virtual reality (VR) in the hotel sector. As the need for creative and interesting solutions keeps growing, virtual reality (VR) becomes a great tool for staff training in real-life scenarios, including customer service, emergency response, and facilities management. Simultaneously, hotels and resorts are using virtual reality to provide possible guests interesting virtual tours of their rooms, amenities, and surrounding attractions, so impacting their choice of booking. Using guest surveys, case studies, and interviews with hotel managers, this paper uses a mixed-method approach to assess the limits and efficacy of a VR application. Studies indicate that hotel managers might use VR to improve guest satisfaction, operational effectiveness, and service quality.

Abstract

Digitalization has become a major driver in the transformation of the global tourism industry, especially in improving the competitiveness of destinations. This study aims to examine the role and contribution of digitalization to strengthening the tourism sector through a literature review study approach to 10 scientific journals published in the last five years (2021–2025). The results of the study show that digitalization has a significant impact on various aspects, such as destination marketing through digital media, the use of artificial intelligence in managing tourism content, the implementation of electronic payment systems, and the empowerment of tourism MSMEs. In addition, synergy between the government, business actors, and local communities is a key factor in optimizing the use of digital technology in an inclusive and sustainable manner. However, challenges such as infrastructure gaps, low digital literacy, and limited resources still need attention. Therefore, an adaptive and collaborative digitalization strategy is needed to encourage Indonesian tourism to be more competitive in the global market.

Abstract

Sustainable tourism management in Penglipuran Tourism Village is a strategic step towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which highlight the importance of balancing economic growth, environmental protection, and socio-cultural empowerment of local communities. Sustainable tourism management in Penglipuran Village emphasizes cultural and environmental preservation and involves the active participation of village communities in various aspects of tourism. Sustainable tourism management in Penglipuran Village is implemented by emphasizing cultural preservation, environmental protection, and active empowerment of local communities. The village adopts the teachings of Tri Hita Karana, which emphasizes the importance of balance between humans and God, the relationship between humans, and the relationship between humans and nature. This concept serves as the philosophical basis and implementation of tourism management. The community continues to practice traditions and culture in their daily lives without being affected by tourist activities, thus preserving their culture and becoming a major tourist attraction. Tourism village management is carried out systematically, involving local communities as primary managers, who hold responsibility and possess local knowledge to preserve natural and cultural resources. This method ensures the sustainable use of resources and fosters accountability at the local level. Penglipuran Village is an example of successful tourism management that applies sustainability principles by combining cultural preservation, environmental protection, and community empowerment. This provides sustainable social, economic, and cultural benefits for all parties involved.
