Jounal of Contemporary Indonesian Islam (JCII) is a peer-reviewed, open-access academic journal published by the Postgraduate Program of UIN Sultanah Nahrasiyah Lhokseumawe, Aceh, Indonesia. The journal is published twice a year (June and December) both in online and printed versions. JCII is committed to providing a scholarly platform for the dissemination of original research articles, reviews, and critical essays on Islamic studies and humanities with a particular emphasis on the dynamics of Indonesian and contemporary Muslim societies. The journal aims to foster academic dialogue and advance interdisciplinary approaches in understanding Islam in various contexts. Focus and Scope The focus of JCII is on contemporary studies of Islam and their intersections with humanities and social sciences. The scope includes, but is not limited to, the following areas: Islamic Theology and Philosophy (ʿAqīdah, Kalām, and Islamic thought) Islamic Law and Society (Sharīʿah, contemporary fatwa studies, Islamic legal institutions) Islamic Economics and Finance (Sharia-based economic practices, financial inclusion, and development) Qur’anic and Hadith Studies (exegesis, hermeneutics, textual and contextual analysis) Education and Da‘wah Studies (Islamic pedagogy, higher education, religious propagation) Cultural and Historical Studies (Islam in Indonesian history, traditions, art, and local wisdom) Sociology and Anthropology of Islam (religious practices, identity, community studies) Literature, Philology, and Linguistics related to Islamic and Indonesian contexts Library and Information Science in relation to Islamic scholarship and digital humanities Publication Ethics JCII upholds the highest standards of academic integrity and follows strict peer-review procedures. Abstract

Islamic Religious Education (IRE) is an important component of the national education system that serves to instill moral values, ethics, and faith in students. However, in practice, IRE instruction often still relies on conventional methods that are unengaging and ill-suited to the characteristics of today's digital generation. This results in low student interest and suboptimal understanding of Islamic values. Therefore, innovation in PAI teaching materials has become an urgent necessity to achieve more effective and contextual learning. Innovation in teaching materials not only involves the development of printed materials but also the creation of strategies, media, and learning approaches that are relevant to technological advancements and the needs of students. This paper discusses the definition, scope, objectives, and benefits of studying PAI teaching material innovation. The scope covers materials on creed, the Qur'an and Hadith, ethics, jurisprudence, and Islamic cultural history. Meanwhile, the objectives and benefits of teaching material innovation include improving learning effectiveness, providing materials that meet student needs, and strengthening teacher competencies. With innovative teaching materials, the learning process can be more communicative, engaging, and meaningful. In conclusion, innovation in PAI teaching materials is a strategic step toward creating relevant, inspiring religious education that can address the challenges of the times. Abstract

This research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of using PowerPoint-based Al-Qur'an hadith teaching materials in the learning process at Nurul Islam Keureusek Private MTs. Based on the results of initial observations, it was found that the conventional teaching methods that have been used so far are less able to increase students' effectiveness and learning outcomes, students' low interest, participation and understanding of the material is the main reason for the need to develop more interesting teaching materials. To overcome this problem, researchers developed digital teaching materials using Microsoft PowerPoint which is designed interactively, equipped with supporting elements such as images, text, sound, video and animation to attract attention and facilitate students' understanding of the subject matter. This research uses the Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE development model, which consists of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation stages. The research results show that this PowerPoint-based teaching material is very effective in increasing learning motivation, students' active contribution during learning, and students' understanding of Al-Qur'an hadith material. Teaching materials have also been proven to make it easier for educators to convey material in a systematic way and in accordance with the Completion Criteria for Learning Objectives (KKTP). Thus, interactive PowerPoint can be used as an innovative and applicable solution to improve the quality of learning in madrasas.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to determine the innovative use of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teaching materials in the form of Student Worksheets (LKS) which are interactive, contextual, and in accordance with the characteristics of students. LKS is intended as an alternative learning medium that not only conveys material theoretically but also encourages students to participate actively in the learning process. This innovation is due to the fact that students are still less interested in PAI subjects, which are often considered monotonous and rote-centered. The LKS development process uses a Research and Development (R&D) model which includes needs analysis, planning, product development, limited trials, revision and implementation stages. The trial results show that the LKS developed is able to increase students' understanding of Islamic concepts, strengthen religious values, and facilitate more active and enjoyable learning. It is hoped that this innovation in teaching materials will be a real contribution in improving the quality of PAI learning in schools. The results of the development show that worksheets are prepared based on student needs and contextual PAI material can increase interest and motivation for learning.

Abstract

Innovation in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning is an urgent need in the digital era to address low student motivation caused by monotonous conventional methods. This study aims to develop audiovisual-based PAI teaching materials through the YouTube platform as a more engaging and interactive learning solution tailored to the digital generation. Using the Research and Development (R&D) method, the research was conducted at SMP Al-Qur'an Ar-Raudhah involving PAI teachers and 24 eighth-grade students. The development process included needs identification, educational video content design, expert validation, and field testing. Results show that the use of YouTube learning videos increased student motivation by 25% and facilitated understanding of complex topics such as fiqh and Islamic cultural history. Most students (83%) demonstrated high enthusiasm for video-based learning. However, challenges such as limited internet access and the need to select content aligned with Islamic values remain. Overall, YouTube-based PAI teaching materials proved effective as an adaptive learning medium that bridges the gap between conventional methods and current student needs, with strong potential for broader implementation in religious education.

Abstract

The development of information and communication technologies encourages learning innovations that are adaptive to the needs of the digital generation. One potential medium is animated videos, which are able to present material visually, interactively and contextually. This research was motivated by students' low interest in learning in the Jurisprudence class IX MTsN 7 North Aceh subject due to the dominance of conventional monotonous methods. The aim of the research is to analyze the implementation and influence of the use of Canva application-based animated videos on increasing students' interest in learning in Qurban and Aqiqah materials. The research used a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques in the form of observations, semi-structured interviews and documentation. Data analysis is carried out through reduction, presentation and verification stages. Results showed that the application of Canva animated videos significantly contributed to the improvement of attention, understanding, and participation of students, while supporting the pedagogical effectiveness of teachers. Despite technical constraints, this medium has proved to be relevant and effective in strengthening learning motivation.

Abstract

The use of animation in teaching materials is a strategic innovation in 21st century education, especially to increase the effectiveness of learning in the digital era. This research describes the implementation and impact of animation-based teaching materials in PAI learning at MTsS Ihyaussunnah with a descriptive qualitative approach through observation, interviews and documentation. Results show animation is able to bridge theory and practice through interactive visualizations that increase students' understanding, interest and motivation. ADDIE model-based development has proven to be systematic, from needs analysis to classroom evaluation. Animation also supports understanding abstract concepts as well as strengthening Islamic values. The main obstacle is the limited infrastructure and digital literacy of teachers, which can be overcome with training and institutional support. In general, animative teaching materials are considered valid, practical and relevant to the digital generation, and have the potential to be integrated into educational policies to support independent curricula and digital transformation.

Abstract

Teachers play an important role in determining the quality of learning and the success of students, especially in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) subjects. This article discusses how teacher responsibility affects the learning achievements of 12th grade students at SMA Negeri 3 Lhokseumawe in the subject of Akhlakul Karimah. Research shows that teachers' responsibilities in planning, implementing, evaluating, and setting an example have a positive influence on students' understanding of concepts and internalization of akhlakul karimah values. Based on the above theoretical framework, it can be concluded that teacher responsibility greatly influences learning success, both in terms of academics and character building. A responsible teacher will be able to provide effective learning, shape students' moral character, and improve their academic achievement. In teaching akhlakul karimah, it is important for teachers to be good role models, use appropriate methods, and create an environment that supports learning. Student achievement is not only measured in terms of test scores, but also in terms of the extent to which students are able to practice the values of akhlakul karimah in their daily lives.
