Abstract

The purpose of this service is to optimize Islamic religious education at the guidance studio of Lorong Sungai Mulia 5 Gombak Kuala Lumpur through creative and contextual learning strategies to form Islamic character and prepare the future of students with noble and competitive character. The ABCD method is used with the Discovery stage to identify individual, institutional, social, and cultural assets through interviews, observations, and FGDs. In the Dream stage, teachers, students, and the community formulated a common dream for the studio to become a center for Islamic character development with interesting and technology-based PAI learning. The Design and Define stages produce concrete programs such as teacher training, curriculum development, religious activities, parenting classes, and interactive learning implementations that are evaluated periodically to measure program success and impact. The results of the service showed a significant increase in students' religious knowledge and practices through the PAI strengthening program and the habit of daily worship. Students become more disciplined in congregational prayers, regularly read the Qur'an before studying, and show a polite and responsible attitude independently. This change reflects the success of the program in forming an Islamic character based on faith awareness, not just obedience due to coercion.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of teachers in addressing the challenges of multicultural learning among Indonesian migrant children at Sanggar Bimbingan Sungai Mulia 5 (SBSM 5), Gombak, Malaysia. Employing a qualitative approach with field research methods, the study is framed within the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) model. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews with the teacher (Bu Masruah), interactions with students, and supporting documentation. The findings reveal that the teacher plays multiple roles: as a cultural mediator, an emotional facilitator, and a connector between migrant children, the community, and external institutions. These roles enhance students’ engagement, motivation, and sense of belonging, although structural barriers such as legal status, limited funding, and the lack of formal recognition from local authorities persist. The study concludes that strengthening teachers’ capacity, securing formal recognition of learning centres, and fostering cross-sector collaboration are crucial for the sustainability of multicultural education for migrant children. Future research should explore cross-national collaborative strategies to strengthen inclusive alternative education models.

Abstract

The purpose of this community service program is to strengthen Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning to improve the understanding, practice, and internalization of Islamic values among students at the Sungai Mulia 5 Guidance Center in Gombak, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This community service method utilizes the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach, which focuses on exploring, utilizing, and developing community assets through the stages of Discovery, Dream, Design, and Destiny. The success of the PAI strengthening program at the Sungai Mulia 5 Guidance Center is supported by the active involvement of the center's management, teachers, volunteers, students, parents, and community leaders who play their roles according to their respective capacities. This participatory collaboration makes the center a community capable of developing meaningful and sustainable Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning. The results of the community service program using the ABCD approach at the Sungai Mulia 5 Guidance Center demonstrate an increase in students' understanding, participation, and enthusiasm in PAI learning. Islamic extracurricular activities have successfully fostered a spirit of togetherness and strengthened the practice of Islamic values in daily life. Islamic character traits such as discipline, responsibility, and respect are increasingly evident in the students' behavior. Furthermore, the studio environment has become more religious, orderly, and conducive thanks to the full support of teachers, parents, and the surrounding community.

Abstract

This study aims to describe immigrant children’s perceptions of the film “Kekuatan Ibu” and to analyze its influence on learning motivation and psychological factors at Sanggar Bimbingan Sungai Mulia 5 (SBSM5), Gombak, Malaysia. The research employed a qualitative descriptive approach with open-ended questionnaires distributed to twenty-five children aged 11 to 13 who had watched the film. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis combined with the Activity Based Costing (ABC) method to identify key elements shaping children’s learning experiences. The findings reveal that psychological aspects emerged as the most significant, as children often expressed feelings of sadness, loneliness, and emotional struggle when learning without direct parental support. Personal aspects were reflected in their sense of responsibility, self-motivation, and strategies for independent study, while social aspects were linked to the limited assistance provided by family members or peers. Overall, the film served as a reflective medium that transformed children’s emotional challenges into renewed motivation to learn and a deeper appreciation for their mothers’ sacrifices. The group viewing activity also fostered stronger academic engagement and a sense of togetherness. The study concludes that media-based educational interventions hold considerable potential in enhancing learning motivation, resilience, and emotional well-being among immigrant children in community-based learning settings.
