Abstract

In this research has been made beverage seaweed from main ingredient of red seaweed type Eucheuma cottonii with added other food ingredients that serve to improve the taste. In addition to labeling and commercially produced, it is necessary to determine the shelf life in seaweed beverage. Determination of shelf life of beverage seaweed was done by Accelerated Shelf Life Testing (ASLT) method. Beverage seaweed studied there are two flavors of original taste and green tea. Based on parameters of pH value, shelf life of original taste is 17 days and the taste of green tea is 34 days. The result is for storage at room temperature 30 °C

Abstract

Utilization of natural light in an open building apartment is one of the several ways to save energy. Not only saving energy but it also sustains the healthy life of the occupants. This paper discusses the effect of layout alternatives mainly due to the potential changing arrangement of the bedrooms and the position of transparent window surfaces on daylighting performance i.e illuminance distribution and averages of illuminance. The Method used in this paper is an experimental method using Radiance 1.02 simulation as a tool. The changed layout in which is the bedroom spaces position concentrated on one window side of space with two separated transparent windows provides a good result with a percentage of area fulfills the standards equals to 29%

Abstract

Ventilation shaft can be used in apartment units to provide cross ventilation by creating a pressure difference between the room’s windward opening and outlet at the roof. The previous research about ventilation shaft has shown its potential in providing good natural ventilation in high-rise apartment building. This paper examines the influence of ventilation shaft aperture configuration on its ability to generate air movement and uniform flow distribution. The experiment is carried out using computational fluid dynamics with RNG k-e calculation method. Ventilation shaft system with a uniform aperture can produce very high air velocity only at the top floor while ventilation shaft system with internal aperture size increased from the upper floor to the lower floor can produce better air flow distribution

Abstract

Non-invasive planar complementary split ring resonators (CSRRs) coupled to microstrip line for measuring the dielectric properties of materials and biological tissues are presented in this paper. The expectations of health professionals are increasingly turning to less invasive surgical procedures and treatments. In particular, the monitoring of vital parameters (sweat, water in the lungs, etc.) or the evolution of certain pathologies, such as cancer cells, could be observed regularly if suitable devices were developed and could especially replace traditional invasive method. Appropriate miniaturized RF or microwave devices could be an alternative for some medical diagnostic applications. These devices would make it possible to determine the dielectric characteristics of biological tissues, which represent their real pathological states. It would thus be possible, by means of dielectric contrast measurements, to follow the evolution of pathology as well as the vital parameters of a patient. The objective of this research is to produce a prototype biosensor that is suitable for measurements on biological tissues and that can be miniaturized to enhance its spatial sensitivity. This work focuses on the design, electromagnetic simulations and characterization of a new miniaturized biosensors operating between 1 and 10 GHz. The ex-vivo experimental results will be shown by measuring the S-parameters of various materials and animal biological tissues. The extraction of the dielectric parameters of these samples is obtained by the measurements of materials

Abstract

Yogyakarta is always flooded by tourists both domestic and foreign. Malioboro street corridor, from Tugu Station to Keraton Yogyakarta, is one of the most visited tourism area in Yogyakarta. However, Ahmad Dahlan’s corridor as one of the important access that link the tourism area reduces its identity by the declining quality of its outdoor space. The analysis techniques are spatial behavior analysis, character appraisal and walkthrough analysis. The study found that declining quality of the outdoor space, such as lack of identity and sustainable street furniture that supports the activities of visitors in tourism areas. In this case, the linkage design, as a transition must be able to show the identity of the corridor to connect the surrounding area visually and spatially

Abstract

In this paper, computational study of Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB) combustion is analyzed. The results are concern about volume fraction and velocity distribution along the boiler. Simulation result were present in velocity, volume fraction, and pressure profile in boiler. All discussed result are applicable to all type of fluidized bed boiler. This paper will concern about how fluidization and combustion occur in boiler. Simulation present in unsteady state, multiphase direction, k-ε standard turbulence model, species transport combustion model and DPM. In this simulation, fuel, air, and other input materials are defined by actual data from power plant operation. As a result of analysis, the variation of secondary air does affect the characteristics of fluidization and combustion in CFB system. The superficial velocity is found around 4.1 m/s. The pressure generated is about 6642.3 Pa in the windbox area, and in the middle furnace area about -868.6 Pa

Abstract

Life expectancy (AHH) is an indicator that can reflect the health status of a region, whether from infrastructure, access, and health quality. As one of the dimensions of the Human Development Index (HDI), AHH is deemed to need global attention. Today, AHH growth in developing countries is slow even slower when compared to underdeveloped countries. In Indonesia, the trend of life expectancy at birth continues to increase, but the achievement of national AHH is still lagging behind the AHH of neighboring countries. In addition, as an archipelagic country, the achievement of AHH among provinces still shows a disparity. This study modeled the factors that determine AHH with semiparametric spline truncated regression approach. The method of selecting optimum knots using Generalized Cross Validation (GCV) method. The best model that is formed is a model using three knots with the coefficient of determination of 84.70 percent. Significant variables were percentage of the poor population, percentage of households using clean drinking water, percentage of population who have health complaints, the percentage of under five years who have been complete immunized, and Mean Years of Schooling (MYS). The results of this study are expected to be an input for the Government to take policy in order to improve the national AHH as a whole

Abstract

Propellant is a rocket fuel that can be solid or liquid. This research focused on composite solid propellant that was made from solid and liquid materials become a slurry. Homogeneity of the propellant slurry is important to investigate because it can affect specification and performance of the propellant. This research objective was to study effect of mixing time to homogeneity of propellant slurry that was processed by horizontal sigma blade mixer. Density data were used to assess the homogeneity and stated as degree of homogeneity. The result showed that the mixing time affect the density values and it was obtained the most homogeneous slurry was at total mixing time 135 minute

Abstract

In urban environment, the growing number of population increases the high level of housing needs, while publicly provided housing is sufficient. This is the main cause of the emergence of slums. This design research aims to upgrade the riverbank slum into a green settlement with improved housing quality by implementing six principles of Green Architecture into design. Field measurement and interview were conducted to obtain data for simulation using Ecotect Analysis and ANSYS Fluent software. The result highlighted that resilience design conducted through respect to site as on of the green architecture principles has the capability to achieve compatibility between user and environment

Abstract

The wire-mesh sensor is an intrusive sensor device that uses for generating 2-dimensional (2D) images of fluid flow. Sensors made of 2 layers copper wires, transmitter, and receiver, that perpendicular each other. The wire-mesh sensor will directly to measure the value of inductance or capacitance at the crossing wire. There are 208 data measurements in 16 × 16 cylindrical wire-mesh sensors. All data measurement then processed by Python software to obtain a 2D image of the capacitance distribution. Experiment results show the inhomogeneous distribution of capacitance that occurs in the wire-mesh sensor. Three types of liquids, distilled water, tap water and salt solution, showed circular pattern of capacitance distribution, with the highest capacitance value being in the central area of the image, while at edge area has a lower capacitance value than the central area
