Abstract

The Effectiveness of Neem (Azadirachta indica) Leaves Extracts, Galangal, and Lemongrass against brown dog ticks (Riphicephalus sanguineus). The study aimed to find out the effect of herbal extracts (consisted of neem leaf, galangal, and lemongrass) against brown dog ticks by in-vivo. Extracting herbal used cold maceration (Ritiasa, 2000) and clinical trial that was conducted in-vivo to dogs infected by brown dog ticks. The study used a randomized block design, consisting of four treatments, i.e. control and three concentrations of herbal extracts (50%, 75%, and 100%); each treatment was replicated three times. Observed variable was the number of dogs free of brown dog ticks infestation in range of 2 weeks - 2 months (in accordance with the application comaphos). Criteria dogs free of parasites was determined by observing and combing dog hair. The numbers of dogs free of brown dog ticks in each cage were analyzed using one way ANOVA. The results showed that in the first week and second week, herbal extracts do not yet performed a significant influence. This is because the effects pharmacokinetics of herbal extracts that were not exposed to the maximum level. The significant effect of herbal extracts started to happen in the third week, especially on herbal extracts with a concentration of 50%, while, the herbal extract at the concentration of 75% and 100% were not significantly different. In the fourth week, 50% concentration showed more significantly, unrestrained dogs could prove this from brown dog ticks infestation. Keywords: herbal extract, Riphicephalus sanguineus

Abstract

Dry And Organic Matter Digestibility Of Kacang Goats Offered Native Grass Supplemented With Rice Meal And Sesbania Leafs. A study on the effect of rice meal and sesbania leafs supplementation on dry and organic matter digestibility of kacang goats offered native grass has been carried out using 12 male goats (6-9 months old) in a block completely randomized design. The goats were grouped into 4 and then each group was treated as R0 = 100% native grass (control), R1 = 75% native grass + 20% sesbania leafs + 5% rice meal, R2 = 50% native grass + 40% sesbania leafs + 10% rice meal or R3 = 25% native grass + 60% sesbania leafs + 15% rice meal. Replication was 3 times for each treatment so there are 12 experimental units. Data was analyzed by Analysis of variance (ANOVA) and the difference among treatments was further analyzed by Duncan’s multiple range tests. Results showed that there is a strong significant difference (P<0.01) among dry matter digestibility. Further test showed that there is a strong significant difference (P<0.01) between R3 and either R0, R1 or R2. Between R2 and R0 there is only a significant (P<0.05) difference. There is no difference (P>0.05) between R2 and R1 as well as R1 and R0. Organic matter digestibility was significantly (P<0.01) differ among treatments. Further test showed that a strong significant (P<0.01) difference was recorded between R3 and either R0, R1 or R2. Similarly, the difference between R2 and R0 as well as R1 and R0 was recorded. There is no significant difference (P>0.05) between R2 and R1. It can be concluded that dry and organic matter digestibility of kacang goats increases according to the increase of sesbania leafs and rice meal supplementation. It was suggested to use sesbania leafs and rice meal in the ration of fattening goats and also it was suggested a further experiment by using different ration formulation composed of these feedstuffs.Keyword: dry matter, organic matter, kavang goat, rice meal, sesbania leaf

Abstract

Study the Role of Hedgerow Plants in Conservation of Dryland Farming Systems on Soil Physical Properties. To determine the effect of infiltration rate and soil physical properties, a study was conducted in the village Oebola, Fatuleu, Kupang district, from November 2008 to June 2009. The experiment was designed in Randomized Block Design (RBD), with four treatments and three replications. The treatments were three types of fencing plants in alley cropping systems i.e. white leadtree (Leucaena leucocephala), hummingbird tree (Sesbania grandiflora syn. Aeschynomene grandiflora), gliricidia (Gliricidia sepium), and the treatment without fencing plants as the control. The parameters observed were organic matter content, bulk density, field water content, maximum water content, aggregate stability, and infiltration rate. Data were analyzed statistically using the F-test and was continued with Duncan test if there was a difference among the treatments tested. The result showed that in the three fencing plants tested, gliricidia gave the best effect in the terms of organic matter content, field water content, maximum water content, and infiltration rate while bulk density of these three plants relatively performed the similar influence. Keywords: infiltration rate, soil physical properties, hedgerow

Abstract

Physical Quality of cashew (Anacardium occidentale) pseudocarp (the pear-shaped fruit of the cashew) Silage in Combination with Various Levels of Cassava Mill Addition and Length of Fermentation. The aim of this experiment was to evaluate physical quality of cashew pseudocarp silage in combination with various levels of cassava mill addition and length of fermentation. This study was designed with a factorial completely randomized design in two treatment factors with three replications. The first factor was various level of cassava mill i.e. L1: 0%, L2: 3%, L3: 6%, and L4: 9%, and the second factor was length of fermentation i.e. W1: 20 days, W2: 40 days and W3: 60 days. The result showed that the cassava mill levels and the length of fermentation did not affected to the damage and decrease level of cashew pseudocarp silage (P>0.05) but it affected to the level of acidity (P>0.01). The physical quality of cashew pseudocarp silage was very good with the damage level average was 1.19%, and the decrease level average was 6.87%. The level of acidity ranged from 3.72 to 4.14. The lowest acidity level was at L4W1 (3.72) and the highest one was at L2W2 (4.14) with the average of acidity was 3.93. Thus, it can be concluded that the best physical quality of cashew pseudocarp silage was at 9% level of cassava mill with 60 days of fermentation length. However, all treatment combinations of cassava mill level and fermentation length produced high physical quality of silage. Keywords: physical quality, pseudocarp, cashew, cassava mill, fermentation, acidity

Abstract

Using of Palm Juice as Additional Energy Feedstuff of Pigs with the Comparison as Basic Material for Sugar Production. Energy resource feedstuff is high portion on pig ration. Generally, prime resource of it is cereals. Cereals used also as food and even as bio-fuel. In contradiction, production of cereals show the low trend caused the global warming and constriction of production area. As result, its price would be high and losing of breeder’s income. On the other hand there is local potential matter would be used as additive feed to extrude using of cereals. Either one is juice of palm (Borassus flabillifer) that generally found in dry region area such as East Nusa Tenggara. Now days, palm juice is used only as fresh-drink or basic material of palm sugar. Chemically, palm juice high content of soluble carbohydrate, especially sucrose, and total of metabolism energy about 3557 Kcal-kg DM. Any research reported that palm juice as additional feed able to support the growth of pig with average daily gain about 384,815 g/day. However, how much is economic value when used as additional feed of pig, especially on comparison, when used for sugar production, have not been explored.Key words: palm juice, energy feed, pigs, sugar production, and economic value.

Abstract

Burning Connection With Pasturing Field And Agriculture Activity At East Nusa Tenggara. Land use for agriculture in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) is still using traditional pattern which was characterized by the very simple application of technology. To open new land, farmers are practising slash and burn system before sowing.Burning concept, involving the use of fire burning, is one concept among other concepts namely cultivation pattern, animal husbandry and others. These concepts are part of agriculture system for community in NTT. Community, with their own reasons and experiences besides physical and geographical environment, are using fire as an important component for their living agriculture.Controlled burning in the appropriate season is an effective way to improve pasture land. For example, burning at the end of the dry season can eradicate the old, dry and low nutritional value plants allowing young grass to grow at the beginning of the rainy season. From the socio-economic point of view, burning or fire technology is a relatively simple technology used by unskilled poor farmers. An arising issue is how to inform the farmers with burning technology to use fire in an efficient and effective way. Keywords: dry land, farming activity, burning

Abstract

Pengaruh ekstrusi terhadap nilai nutrisi pea: analisa in vitro. Ekstrusi meningkatkan (P<0,05) daya cerna pati secara in vitro dari pea, tetapi menurunkan (P<0,05) daya cerna protein in vitro. Keyword : ekstrusi, suhu, kadar air, in vitro, nutrisi, pea.
