Abstract

This research is an effort to find the relevance of the relationship between religion and the state are ideal. Because the formalization of Islamic shariah issue in political discourse is an interesting study in the relation between religion and state. By using the library approach, this article analyzes the involvement of the state in regulating citizens to implement Islamic shariah in Indonesia. Neutrality of the state to be the key in finding the relationship of both. Theoretically, this study provides an explanation that neutrality is not only understood as a state of devotion to give the rights of citizens to pray by faith, but also to limit citizens. For the implementation of shariah will be established and run well, when the state has a neutrality. So the state does not attract Islamic shariah becomes an official policy or state laws (shariah formalization). So also a Muslim can bring religion into the political circle, but only in the level of political ethics.***Penelitian ini merupakan ikhtiar untuk menemukan relevansi hubungan agama dan negara yang ideal.

Abstract

One discourse that continues to be discussed in the realm of Islamic political philosophy is about the relation between religion and state. Broadly speaking, there are at least three paradigms of thinking about the relationship between religion and state. First, the secularistic paradigm, which says that Islam has nothing to do with the state because Islam does not regulate state life or reign. Second, the formalistic paradigm, which assumes that Islam is a complete religion, which includes everything, including the question of the state or a political system. Third, paradigms are substantialistic, which rejects the notion that Islam covers everything and also rejects the nation that Islam only governs the relationship between man and his Creator alone. This article will take pictures of how the three views of this paradigm by showing some of the characters are representative and critically using the comparative method.

The notion of liberation theology is a form of transformative theology that is concerned with issues of equality and social justice. The relationship amidst religion and politics is reciprocal due to there are conflicts of interest between both entities. The emergence of liberation theology itself arises because of the politicization of religion has become more acute and chronic so it needs to be transformed. The thought of liberation theology is basically grown in the famous case of Latin America with the spirit church of the poor. However, within Islam, it also found a similar essence that Islam also teaches that there egalitarianism, equality, and social justice. The article will elaborate on this comparison of liberation theology.
