Abstract

One of the main things in a highway construction plan is the geometric design that includes horizontal and vertical alignment design. This study aims to formulate the steps of highway geometric design into Visual Basic 2005 program. The design steps are the calculation of horizontal and vertical alignment. Using Visual Basic 2005, it is expected that the calculation can be done faster than the manual calculation without mistake. The program is validated by comparing results obtained by manual calculations with a difference about 1x10-4 which is considered accurate. As a case study, a geometric road design is conducted in Bogor in 2009 with a fairly low-speed plan 20-40 km/hour. In the plan, the road has 28 PI (Points of Intersection) on the horizontal alignment and 15 PVI (Point of Vertical Intersection) and obtains good results in accordance with requirements and regulations issued by Bina Marga.

Abstract

Types of rigid pavement for road has been widely used in Indonesia, ranging from toll roads to the outer town road. Rigid pavement is considered more powerful than the flexible pavement. In other words, rigid pavement is expected to have a longer service life and minimal maintenance. The construction cost for rigid pavement is more expensive compared to flexible pavement. While the need for rigid pavement maintenance is cheaper than for flexible pavement. Seen from investment point of view, rigid pavement is more profitable than flexible pavement, because the annual fee required for rigid pavement is less. Due to the comparations, an analysis is performed in this study to select which type of pavement is best used in the future.

Abstract

The use of additional material as ingredients in the manufacture of concrete mixes is increasingly growing. The material used is also increasingly varied, depending on the expected results. This research aims to know the influence of the addition of coconut fibres material with percentage of 1,5 %, 2 %, 2,5 %, and 3 % as an alternative to the strength of high-quality concrete. Research methods done by producing cylindrical and beam concrete samples for testing against the force then conducted concrete. Furthermore, the analysis has been done and the results of testing and comparing the respective strength of the composition of concrete produced. Based on the test results of data concrete cylinder compression strength and tensile strength concrete beams, it was concluded that the increasing of compressive strength up to 9% can be reached by use of additional material coconut fibers 1,5%and increasing of tensile strength up to 19,7% can be reached by use of additional coconut fiber 2%. Therefore, the additional coconut fibers on concrete mixture has strong relationship to increase tensile strength of high strength concrete.
