Abstract

Penelitian in bertujuan untuk mengukur pengaruh penggunaan teknik Berfikir-Berpasangan-Berbagi terhadap keterampilan berbicara dan motivasi belajar bahasa Inggris kelas XI siswa SMA Negeri 5 Palu. Metodenya adalah penelitian quasy experimental dengan rancangan non-equivalent kontrol grup desain. Sample penelitian dipilih secara purposive, di mana peneliti secara sengaja memilih kelas XI IPA 1 sebagai kelas eksperimen dan kelas XI IPA 2 sebagai kelas kontrol. Instrumen pengumpulan data menggunakan tes untuk mengukur kemampuan siswa berbicara dan kuisioner untuk mengukur motivasi siswa. Pengumpulan data menggunakan metode deskriptif dan statistik uji-t. Data yang diperoleh melalui tes dianalisis dan diuji statistik melalui SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) 15.0. Berdasarkan analisis data dari kemampuan siswa berbicara dan motivasi siswa. Ditemukan bahwa nilai rata-rata dari keterampilan berbicara kelas eksperimen (73.50) lebih besar dari kelas kontrol (68). Hasil perbandingan melalui uji-t menunjukkan nilai thitung = 3.355 > nilai ttable = 2.002. Selanjutnya, untuk motivasi siswa, nilai rata-rata kelompok eksperimen adalah 42 dan kelas kontrol adalah 39.37. Hasil perbandingan motivasi siswa melalui uji-t menunjukkan nilai thitung = 2.362 > nilai ttable = 2.002. Sehingga, Ha diterima dan H0 ditolak. Dengan kata lain, penggunaan teknik berfikir-berpasangan-berbagi dapat mempengaruhi kemampuan siswa berbicara dan motivasi siswa. Kata kunci: Pengaruh, Teknik Berpikir-Berpasangan-Berbagi, Berbicara, Keterampilan, Keterampilan Berbicara dan Motivasi.

Abstract

This research endeavors to explore the efficacy of online English learning at SMA Negeri 3 Palu. Its primary objective was to contribute to the ongoing discussion in this field by (1) investigating the effectiveness of online English language learning at SMAN 3 Palu and (2) identifying factors contributing to the challenges faced by both teachers and students in the context of online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic.. Employing a qualitative approach with a case study design, this study involved five English teachers and ten representatives from SMAN 3 students, with two students selected from each class taught by the teachers through purposive sampling. Data collection involved in-depth individual interviews with the informants. Thematic analysis techniques were applied, involving four stages: transcription, coding, categorization, and drawing conclusions from the coded data. The findings revealed that online English learning was ineffective for students at SMAN 3 Palu due to issues such as internet connectivity, the availability of students' smartphones, and the fact that the majority of students reside in remote areas of Sigi regency, which posed challenges for implementing online English learning.

Abstract

Abstract. This research aims to analyze difficulties encountered by students of the English Education study program at Tadulako University in reading comprehension of literary works. A qualitative approach with a descriptive research design applied in this research. The samples were 98 students chosen randomly. Data were collected from existing documents, that is the results of pretest administered in the Reading for Literary Appreciation class. Results of data analysis showed that the students’ reading comprehension of the three genres of literary works – prose, poetry, and drama is low with percentage intervals of comprehension 18-37%. Eight difficulties encountered by the students in reading comprehension of literary works. They were vocabulary mastery, making inferences, recognizing the author’s opinion/bias, summarizing and paraphrasing, identifying figurative language, analyzing poetic or sound devices, evaluating author’s style, and analyzing the story elements. The findings provide information on students’ difficulties in reading comprehension of a variety of literary texts (prose, poetry and drama), which previous research have not yet investigated it. Therefore, teachers can design and apply strategies to help students improve their reading comprehension. Future researchers, furthermore, can find these findings resourceful to support their studies.   Keywords: Reading Comprehension, Literary Works, Reading for Literary Appreciation

Abstract

Students often struggle with grammatical accuracy when writing in English as a second language. This study investigates the types and frequencies of errors made by ninth-grade Indonesian students in their English narrative compositions. The research objectives were to 1) identify common error categories within student-generated narrative texts and 2) determine which error type occurs most frequently. The study utilized a descriptive qualitative approach. Ninth-grade students at SMP IT Qurata’Ayun Palu were assigned a narrative writing task on a designated topic. The collected texts were analyzed using Dulay, Burt, and Krashen's (1982) surface approach error taxonomy. Results indicated a total of 70 errors across the students' work. The most prevalent error type was misformation (50%), followed by omission (36%), addition (13%), and misordering (1%). These findings suggest that difficulties applying correct grammatical forms are a significant obstacle to accurate narrative writing for these students.

Abstract

Plastic waste is one of the most complex problems especially in the Parepare region. Recycling of plastic waste is rare, so the number of garbage piles increases annually. Paving block made from PET plastic waste is one form of effort to reduce the accumulation of plastic waste. The non biodegradable properties of polyethylene cause the plastic aggregate in paving block not to be easily crushed, so it can keep paving block density over a long period of time. The purpose of this study was to determine the stability and compressive strength of paving blocks made of plastic with a variation of 50% PET, 75% PET and 100% PET with bendrat wire fiber, and to find out what the proportion of plastic and sand is in the paving block mixture, which results in optimal compressive strength. The method used is the experimental trial and error method, by experimenting directly in the laboratory. The experiment in question is to make comparisons of the variables studied, so as to produce conclusions that are correlated with the variables studied. From several variations of the planned pet percentage, only 1 variation has stability, namely the 50% PET variant, and the most optimal proportion of plastic and sand is found at 50% PET. The compressive strength obtained is 14.72 MPa for the cube test object and for the paving block specimen it has a compressive strength of 10.16 MPa.

Abstract

The focus of teaching English at schools, especially for beginners is to build vocabulary knowledge in addition to language skills and components. To achieve the goal, KIM Strategy can be implemented, which becomes the topic of this paper. Hence, this paper aims to review the related literature on the implementation and implication of KIM Strategy for vocabulary teaching. This is a library research, in which two types of data were presented. They were  primary and secondary data. The primary data was obtained from the original work of Kristen Vibas (1970), the proponent of the KIM Strategy, entitled KIM: A highly effective strategy to build vocabulary across any content area. Whilst, the secondary data were collected from journal articles published in the past 10 years, 2014-2024. The results revealed that the KIM Strategy is effective in improving students’ vocabulary knowledge due to its teaching principles that support various principles of inquiry learning, self-directed learning, and social learning. The KIM Strategy is also a strategy for enhancing logical, convergent, and divergent thinking skills.

Abstract

Berdasarkan analisis permasalahan yang dihadapi oleh mitra dalam hal ini dosen dan mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Universitas Muhammadiyah Palu adalah rendahnya kemampuan menulis mahasiswa. Salah satu faktor penyebab kondisi tersebut adalah kurangnya umpan balik yang optimal dari dosen terhadap hasil penilaian keterampilan menulis mahasiswa secara sistematis dan berkesinambungan dikarenakan minimnya waktu yang dibutuhkan saat proses pembelajaran di kelas. Padahal, pemberian umpan balik sangat penting bagi mahasiswa untuk berlatih menulis secara sistematis dan berkesinambungan. Kemajuan teknology dapat digunakan untuk memaksimalkan pemberian umpan balik kepada siswa. Oleh karena itu, untuk mendorong dosen agar rutin memberikan umpan balik terhadap hasil karya mahasiswa, maka program pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini memberikan desiminasi kepada dosen dan mahasiswa tentang cara memanfaatkan platform pembelajaran berbasis elektronik yaitu dengan menggunakan aplikasi G-Docs. Desiminasi ini terdiri dari tiga tahap yaitu; persiapan, pelaksanaan, dan evaluasi. Program ini bertujuan untuk melatih dosen dan mahasiswa dalam memberikan umpan balik melalui G-Docs. Berdasarkan hasil evaluasi, dosen dan mahasiswa memberikan respon positif terhadap penggunaan G-Docs dalam memberikan umpan balik. Respon positif juga diberikan terhadap program pelatihan G-Docs.Abstract. Based on the study of the issue experienced by partners in this case, both instructors and learners of the English Language Education Program at one private institution in Palu City is the low students’ writing skills. The absence of constructive and sustained feedback from teachers on students' writing skills resulting from the limited amount of time required throughout the learning process in class is one of the elements aggravating this condition. Actually, a student's capacity to practice writing methodically and consistently depends much on receiving feedback. Modern technologies allow one to maximize the availability of comments to pupils. Thus, this community service program offers instructors and students distribution on an electronic-based learning platform, especially using the G-Docs application, encouraging lecturers to submit comments on student work consistently. Three stages characterize this sharing: planning, execution, and assessment. This initiative seeks to equip teachers and students to use G-Docs for feedback. The evaluation results showed that teachers and students responded favorably about using G-Docs for feedback. The G-Docs training program has received excellent comments.

Abstract

This study aims to determine students' interest in badminton in grade V students of SDN 13 Tappong Palopo. This research is a quantitative descriptive research with survey method. The population in this study were all grade V students of SDN 13 Tappong using saturated samples. with a total of 39 students. Data collection techniques in this study using questionnaires / surveys. Based on the results of research on overall student interest from 39 students of which in the very high category as many as 0 students (0%), high category as many as 21 students (53%), low category as many as 14 students (35%), very low category as many as 1 student (10.26%). So it can be concluded that students' interest in badminton in grade V students of SDN 13 Tappong Palopo is in the high category (53.85%). Students' interest in badminton sports for internal factors in the indicators of attention, liking, activities are mostly in the high category, namely 56.41%. Student interest in badminton sports for external factors in indicators of the role of teachers, facilities, and the environment is mostly in the high category, namely 61.55%. Based on the acquisition of data analysis, respondents expressed a high interest when learning badminton sports.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the effect of self-assessment on grammar teaching and learning, by analyzing how students identify and correct errors related to the use of simple past tense in their own work. A quantitative approach was used in this study by using a quasi-experimental design. The sample was selected using purposive sampling technique. Data were collected through a test, which was divided into two: pre-test and post-test. The population in this study was the ninth grade of MTs Muhammadiyah Al-Haq Palu, where class IX C was the experimental group (n=21) and class IX B was the control group (n=18). Statistical analysis was performed using the Mann-Whitney U test due to the study data was not normally distributed. The results demonstrated that there was an increase in learning outcomes in the use of simple past tense in the experimental group, compared to the control group. It was shown by calculations using the SPSS 24 software system where the Sig (2-tailed) value = 0.000 < 0.05, which means that the null hypothesis is rejected and the alternative hypothesis is accepted. In summary, this study indicated that self-assessment has a significant impact on enhancing students’ ability in simple past tense. The findings offer a new perspective for students, teachers and future researchers in enhancing English language teaching and learning.

Abstract

Pemanfaatan Teknologi Informasi (TI) telah memberikan dampak signifikan dalam mendukung transformasi layanan digital, khususnya di wilayah pedesaan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemanfaatan TI dalam mendukung layanan digital bagi masyarakat Desa Bontomangiring. Metode yang digunakan adalah pendekatan deskriptif kuantitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui kuesioner, observasi, dan wawancara kepada perangkat desa dan masyarakat. Jumlah responden dalam penelitian ini terdiri dari 10 staf desa dan 20 masyarakat umum, sehingga total responden sebanyak 30 orang. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemanfaatan TI telah membantu meningkatkan efektivitas dan efisiensi layanan administrasi, mempercepat akses terhadap informasi publik, serta memperkuat komunikasi antara pemerintah desa dan warga. Beberapa layanan seperti pendaftaran administrasi kependudukan, penyampaian informasi, dan pelaporan kegiatan masyarakat menjadi lebih mudah diakses melalui platform digital. Namun, masih terdapat tantangan seperti kurangnya infrastruktur jaringan internet yang merata. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa meskipun TI telah membawa dampak positif, perlu dilakukan upaya lanjutan dalam hal pelatihan, pendampingan, serta pembangunan infrastruktur digital agar seluruh masyarakat desa dapat merasakan manfaatnya secara maksimal. Penelitian ini diharapkan menjadi dasar bagi pengambilan kebijakan dan strategi pengembangan layanan digital yang lebih inklusif di tingkat desa.
