Abstract

Unlike other learning models, the LOC-R learning model focuses on literacy in learning material so that no single learning objective is neglected. However, the learning concept still relies on student-centered learning (SCL). This research examined the effectiveness of the LOC-R learning model (literacy, orientation, collaboration, and reflection) in science learning activities for Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Teacher Education IAIN Sultan Amai Gorontalo students. The research used a learning model focusing only on lecturers' lectures and a learning model concentrating on students' independent presentations as a control group. Three learning materials were selected for the science learning activities, two for the control group (one-way lecture and presentation) and one for the test group, assessed as having the same difficulty level. The success of learning activities is evaluated in two aspects: learning outcomes and student interest in learning. To test the learning outcomes of each group, a pre-test was carried out at the beginning of each learning activity and a post-test at the end of each learning activity for the three groups. Then, the results were analyzed using the N-gain test technique. In addition, a semi-quantitative analysis of students' learning interests was also carried out through questionnaires. The results obtained were that the LOC-R learning model was proven to improve student learning outcomes as seen from the N-gain value of 87.4035%, which was much greater than the control group, where the one-way lecture method only produced an N-gain value of 39.5127% and the presentation method produced an N-gain value of 45.6645%. However, based on the questionnaire given to students who took the LOC-R learning model test, not all showed positive interest, with 50% of students rating it positively, 13.64% rating it neutral, and 36.36% rating it negatively. From this research, researchers can conclude that the LOC-R learning model has proven effective in improving student learning outcomes. However, there is still a need to think about ways to package the learning model innovatively so that it can be popular with all students.

Abstract

Unlike other learning models, the Discovery Learning model emphasizes theoretical and practical in-depth material exploration, ensuring no learning objectives are overlooked. This differs from other student-centred learning (SCL) models, which grant full autonomy to students. The Discovery Learning model incorporates the role of lecturers as assistants, allowing students to build a strong foundational understanding of knowledge.  This study investigates the effectiveness of the Discovery Learning model in science learning for students of the Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Teacher Education program at IAIN Sultan Amai Gorontalo. The research was conducted through four cycles, each consisting of the learning steps of stimulation, problem identification, data collection, data processing, verification, generalization, and reflection. The success of the learning activities was measured by improvements in learning outcomes, reflected in the scores of pre-tests conducted before implementing the learning model and post-tests conducted afterwards.  The hypothesis was tested using the paired-sample test to determine the significance between pre-test and post-test scores in each cycle, followed by an effectiveness test using the N-gain test. The findings confirmed the hypothesis, as all cycles showed a t-value greater than the critical t-table value, indicating increased learning outcomes through the Discovery Learning model. This was also evident in the consistent improvement in the average scores between pre-tests and post-tests in each cycle. However, based on the N-gain test, the effectiveness of the learning model was found to be only 53.35%, which falls into the category of low effectiveness. This suggests a need for additional scientific literature and laboratory equipment within the scope of IAIN Sultan Amai Gorontalo.

Abstract

Teaching reproductive education at the elementary school level remains a sensitive issue, balancing the need to prevent sexual abuse through proper knowledge with concerns about social, religious, and cultural norms. This study aims to explore the perceptions of prospective elementary school teachers in Gorontalo regarding reproductive content in science education. Using a descriptive quantitative design, data were collected from 60 respondents through a closed-ended questionnaire. The findings show that while most respondents opposed teaching reproductive material at the elementary level due to moral and cultural concerns, many were not against the content itself but rather the method of delivery and the consideration of children’s maturity. This suggests that reproductive education could be implemented if presented through contextual and values-based approaches, such as moral-educational narratives. The study highlights both the sensitivity of the topic and the potential pathways for its gradual and culturally aligned integration into science education.

Abstract

Black tea is a drink commonly consumed in Indonesia, so it is not uncommon for dregs to be found to be wasteful. Waste is a serious problem that, if not handled properly, will have specific environmental impacts. Many people use tea waste as fertilizer without knowing the danger it causes to plants without further processing. This research aimed to analyze the effects of black tea waste on the fertility quality of rainbow chili plants (Capsicum annum L.). The type of research is qualitative research. The method used in this research is qualitative observation to observe the maximum height, the time to reach the maximum height, the entire leaf width, the time when the first flower appears, the time when the first fruit appears when the first fruit matures, the length of the first fruit, and the middle circumference of the first fruit of the rainbow chili plants (Capsicum annum L.) which were planted in potting soil given black tea waste with different ratio. From all the parameters observed, it was found that the best quality of rainbow chili plants (Capsicum annum L.) was in potting soil with a definite ratio of not too much but also not too little. From this fact, black tea waste can fertilize plants, but with a specific maximum level limit. Excessive amounts of tea waste can trigger alkalinity in the soil, which reduces plant fertility, and the presence of active substances such as polyphenols in it can kill decomposing bacteria, which causes new problems for the soil. Further research is still needed, especially in overcoming alkalinity and the content of active substances that can kill decomposing bacteria in the soil in black tea waste before it can be made into a commercial product like planting medium.
