Abstract

A kinetic study of pyrolysis of meranti wood using the Kissinger-Akahira-Sunose (KAS), Ozawa-Flynn-Wall (OFW), and Friedman methods using thermogravimetric analysis has been carried out. This study aims to study the synergistic effect of meranti wood and determine the activation energy value. Pyrolysis was carried out at four heating rates, namely 10, 15, 20, and 25°C/minute under N2 gas. The temperature range in the active pyrolysis of meranti wood is 128,42-521°C. The average activation energy values of pyrolysis of meranti wood using the KAS, OFW, and Friedman methods were 170,84 ± 30,07 kJ/mol, 180,36 ± 29,42 kJ/mol, respectively 174, ± 54,77 kJ/mol. Keywords: meranti wood, kinetics studies, pyrolysis, thermogravimetric analysis

Abstract

Thermal decomposition study of Spirulina platensis pyrolysis with heating rate of 15°C/min was conducted. Microalgae pyrolysis was carried out with a thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA) instrument. This research focused on analyzing the thermal decomposition process of Spirulina platensis which has a moisture content of 8.34% and ash content of 7.18%. Thermal decomposition of Spirulina platensis occurs in 3 stages, namely water evaporation at temperatures ≤ 140°C; active pyrolysis with a temperature range of ±147-502°C involving thermal decomposition of carbohydrate compounds, proteins and lipids; and passive pyrolysis with temperatures ≥ 502°C, where the remains of more stable organic components were decomposed. Keywords: Spirulina platensis, thermogravimetric analysis, and decomposition

Abstract

The pyrolysis of Spirulina platensis microalgae using thermogravimetric analysis at a heating rate of 10°C/min has been conducted. This study aims to examine the characteristics of Spirulina platensis microalgae through its thermal decomposition behavior and the active and passive pyrolysis temperature ranges in the microalgae powder. Based on the analysis results, Spirulina platensis microalgae contains 8.34% moisture and 7.18% ash content. The decomposition pattern of Spirulina platensis microalgae is divided into three stages: the water evaporation stage occurs at temperatures ≤ 150ºC, the active/main pyrolysis stage occurs in the temperature range of 150-502°C, and the passive pyrolysis stage occurs at temperatures ≥ 502°C. Keywords: Spirulina platensis, Pyrolysis, and Thermogravimetric Analysis.
