Abstract

Abstract

Abstract. The emergence of various mosque designs today enriches the repertoire of Indonesian architecture. This is due to differences in the understanding of the community and precedents related to Islamic architecture. This phenomenon results in differing perceptions of the physical identity of mosques, including those in Banda Aceh. This research aims to understand the perceptions of UIN Ar-Raniry students regarding the physical identity of mosques in Banda Aceh. Data collection was carried out by distributing questionnaires to 100 respondents. The research results indicate that respondents consider domes as the identity of a mosque. However, respondents do not see the presence of minarets and the use of ornaments as the identity of mosques in Banda Aceh. Despite the small percentages, another important finding is that a small number of respondents believe that the use of domes, ornaments, and minarets is not a necessity in mosque design.

Abstract

Abstract. Public buildings are formed based on public activities and needs. The building must meet the needs of users as a whole. One of the public buildings most needed by the community is a house of worship. For the people of Aceh, one of the houses of worship that is quite often visited is the Baiturrahman Great Mosque, which is located in the center of Banda Aceh City. The existence of disability issues raises questions about the needs of persons with disabilities which makes this question the basis of this research. The question in this research is how accessible is it in a public building, especially for persons with disabilities. The research method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. Data collection is done by observation. that the results of the study show that the Baiturrahman Grand Mosque in Banda Aceh, has not fully implemented the concept of a disability-friendly building. This is because the availability of supporting facilities for persons with disabilities has not been maximized, and some of the facilities provided cannot be used properly, so that when viewed from the perspective of the needs of persons with disabilities, this building cannot operate optimally.

Abstract

The growth of shophouses in Banda Aceh City tends to be fast. This phenomenon cannot be separated from the consequences of Banda Aceh being a provincial capital. However, the uncontrolled growth of shophouses tends to have negative impacts on the urban environment. Therefore, this study was aimed at gaining new knowledge on perceptions held, problems encountered and solutions expected by residents related to shophouses in Banda Aceh City. This research was conducted in two stages. In the first stage, a qualitative research method was used. Data were collected using a survey with open-ended questions and analyzed using a content analysis method (text data). In the second stage, a quantitative research method was used. Data were collected using a survey with closed-ended questions and analyzed using a quantitative analysis method. Both data collection methods were executed based on online surveys. The results showed three dimensions of the perceptions of residents related to shophouses in Banda Aceh City, i.e.: Lack of Regulation, Development Consequence, and Efficiency Effort. They also showed four dimensions of the problems encountered by residents, i.e.: Environment Disturbance, Circulation Disturbance, Reduced Comfort, and Reduced Esthetic. Related to the solutions expected by residents, there were two dimensions, i.e.: Regulation Rearrangement and Public Facility Management. The results also revealed a strong relationship between the Lack of Regulation perception dimension and the Circulation Disturbance problem dimension and the Regulation Rearrangement solution dimension.
