Abstract

AbstractThe introduction of type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) is a public health issue with the risk of chronic complications. Preventing DM complications requires family involvement, especially mothers as the managers of family health. The Nurse Family Partnership (NFP) approach is relevant for strengthening family empowerment based on Pandhalungan culture. The research objective is to analyze the impact of implementing family empowerment for Pandhalungan mothers based on the Nurse Family Partnership (NFP) on the behavior of preventing type 2 DM complications. The research method is a quantitative cross-sectional design with 165 respondents. Data analysis used the Spearman Rank test and logistic regression. The results show a significant relationship between the implementation of NFP and the behavior of preventing type 2 DM complications (r=0.612; p<0.001). The implementation of NFP is a dominant factor (OR=4.21; p<0.001). Conclusion and recommendation: NFP-based family empowerment is effective in improving the behavior of preventing type 2 DM complications in the Pandhalungan community. Keywords: type 2 diabetes mellitus; community nursing; family empowerment; nurse–family partnership.
