Abstract

Bioplastics are plastics that can be used like conventional plastics but can be more easily decomposed in the soil. Studies have been conducted to determine the effect of temperature variations in the gelatinization of porang starch on the manufacture of bioplastics with sorbitol plasticizers on their characterization. In this study, bioplastics have been produced which are made with variations in the composition of starch: chitosan (30:70) %, (40:60) %, (50:50) %, (60:40) %, and (70:30) % with the addition of sorbitol as a plasticizer and heating process at gelatinizing temperature variations of 70 ° C, 80 ° C, and 90 ° C. The results showed that the variation in gelatinization temperature affects the thickness, density, and absorbency of bioplastic water. Where the higher the temperature of gelatinization, the thickness of the bioplastics will decrease, the density of bioplastics will increase, and the absorption of bioplastic water decreases.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the image, position, and problems of Javanese female characters in the three novels of Naning Pranoto. This research is descriptive qualitative with a feminist analysis approach. The sources of data are the novels entitled Lupa Singgah di Shizi, Wajah Sebuah Vagina, and Mei Merah 1998 (Kala Arwah Berkisah) by Naning Pranoto. The research data are all lingual units in the form of sentences that contain the image, position, and problems of Javanese women in Naning Pranoto’s three novels. Data were collected using reading and note-taking techniques. Data analysis was conducted by comparing, categorizing, presenting, and making inferences. The results of this study show that the image of women displayed in the three novels by Naning Pranoto is quite dynamic because of the social contact experienced by the characters. Each character's background also affects the image labeled towards Javanese female characters in the three novels. When viewed from the position of female characters, Javanese women in the novels are depicted as figures who are more dominated by men. This could be Naning Pranoto's intention to protest or show cynicism towards those who marginalize women. Then the next problems shown in the novel mostly start from economic problems that cause other problems to arise such as sexual violence, oppression, and marginalization.

Abstract

Society of Lingkungan VIII Kelurahan Gedung Johor, Medan City utilizes the Al-Buchari Mosque as a means of worshiping and gaining knowledge for the Muslim community. However, Al-Buchari Mosque still uses water containers to wash the hands of its worshipers in order to prevent the transmission of the Sars-Cov 2 virus, which is an increasingly worrying situation. Medan Johor District is a red zone area in terms of the spread of the Sars-Cov 2 Virus. Based on data from the Corona Pandemic Prevention Task Force, Medan City has had more than 1000 positive cases of Covid-19 in the city of Medan. This is due to the lack of public awareness of the importance of washing hands, maintaining distance, and wearing masks. One of the effective ways to prevent the transmission of the Sars Cov-2 virus is to create a sink that does not require us to hold it but control it with our feet. So that the spread of the virus through hand media can be avoided. With this non-contact hand washing, people who worship at the Al-Buchari Mosque will minimize the transmission of the Sars Cov-2 virus through hand media.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the large potential of dry leaf waste in the campus environment of the University of North Sumatra and the awareness of the importance of appropriate innovation in the use of dry leaf waste as an environmentally friendly alternative fuel. The aim of this research was to determine the potential of leaf waste in the campus environment as a raw material for making environmentally friendly charcoal briquettes. The research method was observation, conducted in the campus environment of the University of North Sumatra, followed by calculating the amount of leaf waste produced per day, and testing continued with the production of dry leaf briquettes. The test results of the three combustions with different mixtures of raw materials in each combustion resulted in solid dry leaf briquettes that could ignite well. This study produced briquettes with proximate and ultimate tests that met SNI No.01-6235-2000 standards with a moisture content test of 4.35%, ash content test of 5.65%, carbon content test of 78.68%, calorific value of 6115 cal/g, and a burning rate of 1.5 grams/minute. Briquettes that meet SNI standards can become an environmentally friendly alternative energy source, a source of livelihood, and will certainly have a positive impact on waste management on the campus of the University of North Sumatra.
