Abstract

Abstract

This article uses theological-ethical approach to focus on the presentation of the relationship of religion and state in the concept of principled pluralism and provides a reflection on the life of the nation and state in Indonesia which has Pancasila. The theological basis used as a reference is the Reformed theology of the Neo-Calvinism wing which was pioneered by Abraham Kuyper and forwarded by ideas from Kuyperians such as Gordon Spykman, James Skillen, Jonathan Chaplin. The author will argue that Pancasila is in harmony with principled pluralism. KEY WORDS: principled pluralism, structural pluralism, confessional pluralism, Pancasila.

Abstract

Joseph Fletcher’s theory of situational ethics is so influential since the 20th century until this day. The fruits of his thoughts have spread to all aspects including medical ethics and medical law. Fletcher claimed that the situational ethics that he presented had its source from Lord Jesus’ and Apostle Paul’s teachings. But the theory of situational ethics is not agreed upon by all streams in Christianity including the Reformed stream. In this article, many points of Joseph Fletcher’s situational ethics in his book ‘Situation Ethics: The New Morality’ are discussed and analyzed according to Reformed perspective. KEYWORDS: situational ethics; Joseph Fletcher; love; Reformed.

Abstract

Even though Indonesia has entered the Post-Soeharto Era for almost a quarter of a century, authoritarianism still needs to be watched out for. The style and behavior of authoritarianism in any part of the world is common to shed blood rather than build peace. This study aims to reveal Jesus' rejection of authoritarianism in government. Since Indonesia's independence, authoritarianism has occurred during the New Order. For 32 years, this government suppressed the development of democracy which also had an impact on the economic, education, health and religious fields. In this study, the authors found that excessive vigilance and fear of the presence of a Zealot-style theocracy model of government through the issue of the Islamic state and Islamic society has led to absolute loyalty and partiality without reserve from the Church towards the Government. The author argues that the church, as a spiritual institution, has been “politicized”, besides the church has lost its critical and corrective functions.
