Abstract

Many scholars are reluctant to recognize the theological commonality among the wisdom literature. However, the concept retribution may connect the texts since it becomes their common question. Yet, their perspectives on retributive theology are diverse; in fact, they seem contradictory. This leads to the research question that I wish to address, i.e., how to understand the tension between these writing when they speak about the retribution. this essay will examine the concept of retribution in the OT, comprehend its meaning in the wisdom traditions, and compare it to other OT traditions.

Abstract

Sabbath and the Lord’s day are important concepts in the Old and New Testament. However, Christian traditions have downgraded their role and significant correlation with the Christian worship. The question is how the meaning of Sabbath and the Lord’s day could contribute to understanding the biblical teaching about worship. This article investigates Sabbath dan the Lord’s day from the historical redemptive perspective, demonstrates their significances, and considers their application for the current issue of online services. It argues that Sabbath and the Lord’s day realize of God’s vision regarding the purpose of creation and the new creation and underline God’s present seen through the right and harmonious relationships between human and all creations. Christian worship should signify their sacramental roles demonstrating God’s present through the right and harmonious relationship of believing community. This may become a substantial issue of online services, which is hardly able to show harmonious fellowship of true believers.

Abstract

Abstract

In The Apostolic Fathers and the New Testament, Clayton addresses five issues, namely, the historical setting of the church father literature, the genre and setting in life of the church father literature, the ethics, and faith in the church father teaching, the struggle of the church fathers concerning the opposition from the Jewish and Gentile society, the influence of some churches in the second century. After observing the historical setting of church fathers, Jefford concludes that the letter of Ignatius was written ca., 107-109 AD from Asia Minor; the letter of Polycarp was written ca., 108-109 AD from Smyrna;  1 Clement was written ca., 65-70 AD from Rome; the Didache was written ca., 120 AD from Antioch; the Martyrdom of Polycarp was written ca., 155-160 AD from Smyrna; the Shepherd of Hermas was written ca., 90-150 from Rome; 2 Clement was written c.a. 166-174 from Corinthians; the letter of Barnabas was written ca., 96-100 from Alexandria; the Epistle of Diognetus could be composed around the first to the third century from anywhere around the Mediterranean world; the lost written work of Papias, Exposition of the Oracle of the Lord, probably was written in 130 AD.

Abstract

Scholars disagree if there is a New Testament theology. While many scholars claim that there are diversities within NT, some argue that eschatology, especially the teaching about judgment probably can become a theological theme connecting the NT. This article will examine that proposal. The research question is how to understand the role of the teaching of Judgment in the New Testament theology. This article will employ historical-critical exegesis to investigate the teaching of judgment in the NT texts and will argue that, although the teaching of judgment is common in the NT, it is not a core of NT theology; the teaching about Jesus is the central theme of the NT theology.
