Abstract

This research was carried out in July - August 2022. The location of coral sampling is in the coral reefs of the Nirwana coast, West Sumatra. The objective by conducting this study is to determine the type of nematocysts in the body tissues of corals scleractinia, Acropora formosa, Seriatopora sp, and Pocillopora damicornis. Method to know the types of nematocysts from A. formosa, Seriatopora sp, and P. damicornis were carried out using an Olympus, microscope with x100 objective lens magnification at the Marine Biology Laboratory, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science, University of Riau. Of the 25 major types of nematocysts known in the phylum Cnidarian, two types are found in these three species. The results showed that there were two main types of nematocysts, namely holotrichous isorhizas (HI) and micro basic p-mastigophore (MpM). The three coral species, A. formosa, Seriatopora sp, and P. damicornis, of the holotrichous isorhizas (HI) nematocysts type and the micro basic p-mastigophore (MpM) nematocyst, were found in the coral species A. formosa and P. damicornis. The type of nematocyst is thought to be used to attack and kill prey.

Abstract

Hypertension is one of the main health problems at risk of causing cardiovascular diseases, such as heart attack and stroke, which requires special attention in coastal areas, including Teluk Rhu Village, North Rupat Sub-district, Bengkalis Regency. Based on an initial survey, the incidence of hypertension in this village is quite high, especially among fishermen who have an irregular lifestyle and limited knowledge about the risks of hypertension. In order to overcome this problem, Community Service activities (PKM) were carried out on May 20, 2024 with the aim of increasing community knowledge and awareness about hypertension through counseling, health checks, and distribution of educational materials. This activity also involves students as facilitators and brings health services closer to people living in remote areas. The evaluation results showed that this program succeeded in increasing community knowledge about hypertension and its prevention measures. Of the 30 participants who took part in the blood pressure check, 10 of them were diagnosed with hypertension and given recommendations for treatment and regular check-ups. In addition, this activity also introduced technology in the form of educational media such as posters and videos to deepen the community's understanding of the symptoms and management of hypertension. Although the program has been running well, there is still a need to improve health facilities and early detection to expand the scope of education and treatment, especially for high-risk communities. With the establishment of a hypertension club and improved health services, it is hoped that the prevalence of hypertension can be reduced and the quality of life of the people of Teluk Rhu Village improved

Abstract

The mangrove ecosystem in Dompas Village, Bengkalis Regency, has been degraded due to anthropogenic activities and pollution from both land and sea. This study aims to analyze the condition of the mangrove ecosystem and the urgency of conservation in the coastal area of Dompas Village. The methods used were field surveys, observation of the mangrove ecosystem, measurement of physical and chemical parameters of the water, and interviews with the local community. The results of the study show that the mangrove ecosystem in Dompas Village has experienced a decline in quality due to uncontrolled logging, pollution from the Pertamina Sungai Pakning oil refinery, and shipping activities. Mangrove degradation has caused coastal abrasion, a decline in biodiversity, and a reduction in fishery resources. Conservation of the mangrove ecosystem is crucial to maintain ecological functions, protect the coastline, preserve biodiversity, and support the livelihoods of coastal communities. Rehabilitation efforts, community education, enforcement of regulations, and integrated coastal zone management are needed to ensure the sustainability of the mangrove ecosystem in Dompas Village.
