Abstract

Surakarta road network services high traffic volume to/from Surakarta city. It is caused by the activities are still centered. In addition, outside road network of city which is provided for traffic only passing Surakarta city is not available yet. Therefore, a Surakarta road network needs urgently to be expanded and a proposed ring-road is considered necessary. In order to anticipate the future traffic condition, effects of a proposed ring-road is studied. The aim of study is to predict the future traffic condition in terms of effective journey time after a proposed ring-road is implemented using Teacher Friendly Transportation Program (TFTP). The results show that effective journey time in 2009 and 2014 was significantly reduced after opening the proposed ring-road in the Surakarta road networks. The efficiency of journey time in 2009 was predicted in the range of 8 to 9 minutes for three alternatives and in 2014 was about 9 to 11 minutes. Meanwhile, the journey time for ring-road in 2009 was estimated in 17.1 minutes with the efficiency of journey time for alternative 1, 2 and 3 was calculated in 17.9, 10.9 and 13.9 minutes, respectively. The journey time for ring-road in 2014 was found to be 19 minutes with the efficiency of journey time for alternative 1, 2 and 3 is 20, 17.5 and 15, respectively.

The average maximum of parking index is 123%. The majority of parking duration is 6 up to 7 hours (29 vehicles). The parking volume is about 1757 vehicles. Parking turn over is 3.1 vehicles . Therefore, it requires 198 m2 of additional parking area. The average of maximum of car parking accumulation is 84 cars. The maximum parking index is 105%. The majority of parking duration is 5 up to 6 hours (41 cars). The parking volume is 245 cars. Parking turn over is 3.1 cars.

Abstract

One of the supporting factors to improve connection between Surakarta and Yogyakarta, is the adequacy of public transportation. With the existence of adequate public transportation that meet the standard, especially Yogyakarta – Surakarta buses, activities in the two cities can be expected to increase. The activities can be economic, politic, social, safety, scientific or the others.  The existing public transportation between Surakarta – Yogyakarta, needs to be evaluated because public might not satisfy the standard. The objective of the research is to analyse the operational cost and tariff of public buses serving Yogyakarta – Surakarta line.  The method of this research is descriptive analysis.  In this research, public work on transportation in this region was analyzed in order to improve its condition in the future. Primary data include the number of passenger, travel time, departure and arrival time.  Secondary data obtained from the bus companies consist of direct and indirect operational costs, as well as fixed and variable cost. The results show that the passenger tariff after yield analysis with headway 4 minutes and the average load factor of 55.83% is IDR 8,720. At headway of  4 minutes and passenger tariff of IDR 8,000 bus companies are still suffering from loss. If the headway changed to 6 minutes , the load factor became  83.75%  and the passenger tariff of IDR 5,800. It is lower than the current passenger tariff of IDR 8,000. The changing of headway from 4 minutes to 6 minutes may increase bus company profit by 27%.
