Abstract

Kata kunci: diet tinggi garam, tekanan darah, hipertensiAbstractHypertension remains a health problem in the world. The cause is believed to be related to the high-salt diet. The purpose of this studi was to describe the blood pressure of Wistar rats after administration of high-salt diet. This research was experimental with post-test only control group design. Ten male and ten female Wistar rats were divided into two groups: control group(K) and treated group(P). High-salt diet (8%NaCl, 3ml/day) was given to the P group for four weeks. Blood pressure increased significantly in group P compared to group K, systolic blood pressure (SBP) 191±17mmHg (P) and 168±16mmHg (K) in (p<0.05), diastolic blood pressure (DBP) 162±17mmHg (P) and 139±13mmHg (K) in (p<0.05), mean arterial pressure (MAP) 176±17mmHg (P) and 156±15mmHg (K) in (p<0.05). The increase in SBP and DBP only occurred in male rats, not in female rats. In male rats, SBP were 185±13mmHg (P) and 159±9mmHg (K) in (p<0.05), DBP were 159±18mmHg (P) and 131±10mmHg (K) in (p<0.05), MAP were 172±16mmHg (P) and 150±15mmHg (K) in (p>0.05). In female rats, SBP were197±19mmHg (P) and 178±16mmHg (K) in (p>0.05), DBP were 165±18mmHg (P) and 148±11mmHg (K) in (p>0.05), MAP were 181±18mmHg (P) and 162±14mmHg (K) in (p>0.05). The conclusion of this study is an increase of blood pressure after the administration of high-salt diet only occured in male rats. Keywords: high-salt diet, blood pressure, hypertension

Abstract

Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a growing global health threat, where chronic hyperglycemia and insulin resistance can affect coagulation profiles. Objective: This study aims to examine coagulation factor profiles and platelet counts in T2DM patients. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional observational study using data from prothrombin time (PT), activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT), international normalized ratio (INR), and platelet counts of T2DM patients admitted to the Internal Medicine Ward of Dr. M. Djamil General Hospital, Padang, in October 2023. Data analysis was performed descriptively using SPSS v26 software. Results: Of the 39 patients analyzed, the distribution of characteristics showed a male predominance of 64.1%, with the largest age group being 45–59 years (48.7%). The most common complication associated with T2DM was chronic kidney disease, identified in 82.1% of the study population. Evaluation of hemostasis parameters showed that APTT was prolonged in 56.4% of patients. Conversely, PT (87.2%), INR (87.2%), and platelet count (66.7%) were within reference ranges. Conclusion: This study found most coagulation parameters normal, but a relatively high proportion had prolonged APTT, underscoring the need for individualized coagulation monitoring in T2DM, especially with renal complications

Abstract

Adequate fluid intake is associated with students' attention, memory function, and cognitive performance. Sekolah Alam Ar Royyan, one of the schools highlighted in the G20, needs assistance with students' low water drinking behavior. The hydration team's preliminary research found that most students were mild-moderate dehydrated, which was closely related to action. This activity aims to build awareness of the school and its community to build a culture of drinking enough water at school. The method used was action research involving school administrators, students, and teachers. The researcher identifies specific problems, collects relevant data, analyzes the data, and then decides on the needed actions to overcome these problems. After implementing a series of activities, the team conducted the evaluation. The results showed that eight out of ten students were moderately dehydrated, had low water drinking habits at school, and had limited availability of clean drinking water. After conducting activities with a participatory approach, water drinking at school began to increase, although yet to be significant, and the school has provided drinking water in gallons that students can access while at school in each classroom. This activity concludes that there has been an increase in awareness from the entire school academic community about fulfilling the adequacy of students' drinking water at school.

Abstract

As the global population increases, the need for effective elderly care becomes increasingly urgent. Health cadres play a crucial role in improving the health and well-being of communities. One of the strategies to address this need is training health cadres, who can serve as vital links between healthcare providers and the elderly. In this training program, we aimed to enhance the role of health cadres in elderly care to support the physical, mental, and social well-being of the elderly. Through interactive exercises and providing health cadre pocketbooks, participants learned how to assess the individual needs of the elderly and increase their motivation to visit nearby healthcare facilities, thus improving the health status of the elderly in the region of Nagari Padang Kandis, district of 50 Kota. The activity involved 15 elderly health cadres. This training showed a 25% increase in the cadres' knowledge, as improved pre-test and post-test scores indicated. The health cadres now possess the skills and knowledge to effectively support the elderly community in their environment, fostering an independent and active elderly population in their daily activities and reducing dependence on the productive-age population. Furthermore, this community engagement activity, involving collaboration between the academic community of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Andalas, and the Padang Kandis health center, will be conducted periodically to enhance the health status of the local individuals in their society life.
