Abstract

1. In this paper a total of 153 species of Lauraceae (not including the 96 species reduced to synonymy) are discussed. 2. New species are described in Alseodaphne (1), Beilschmiedia (6), Cinna in.omM.7n (23), Cryptocarya (3), Endiandra (3), Lindera (1), Litsea (24), Persea (2) and Phoebe (4). 3. New combinations are proposed in Beilschmiedia (2), Endiandra (1) and Litsea (3). 4. New names are coined for species of Beilschmiedia (1), Cinnamomum (2)and Litsea (2). 5. Reductions are made in Actinodaphne (5), Alseodaphne (1), Beilschmiedia.(5), Cinnamomum (45), Endiandra (3), Lindera,(1),Litsea -(11),Machilus(1), Neolitsea (3),Persea (2), Phoebe (4), Tetradenm (3) and Tetranthera (11). 6. Beilschmiedia maingayi Hook, f., Cinnamomum siibavenium Miq., Litsea artocarpifolia Gamble and L. castanea Hook. f. are recorded for the first time for Java.

Abstract

The Asiatic Genus Neocinamomum comprises 6 species, of which N. atjehense is described here for the first time. cinnamomum fargesii Lee.is moved to Neocinnamomum,N. willsonii Allen is considered to be conspeeific with it. N. delavayi var.Mekongense hand.Mazz is raised to specific rank. N. hainanianum Allen is reduced to N.lecomtei.Excluded from the genus is N.confertiflorum, which is moved to Litsea.

Abstract

In the genus Actinodaphtie Nees one new combination and one new species ace presented; in LAndera Thunb. one new combination, 4 new species and one new forma; in lAtsea Lam. one species has been reduced to synonymy, one nomen novum is presented, 5 new species are described and of 6 species new cecords are given; one species has been reinstated. The obscure Mackilus sericea Bl. is a3sumed to be conspecific with Persea bombyeina (King ex Hook, f.) Kosterm. In the genus Persea Mill. one nomen novnm, two new combinations and one new species are created and proposed. In the genus Phoebe Nees one new combination and two new species are presented

With the death of Professor Anwari Dilmy on 25 April 1979, Indonesia lost a man who contributed a large part of his life to safeguard the valuable collections of the Herbarium Bogoriense of the National Biological Institute.

Abstract

In Ceylon 2 species of Cynometra occur, the wide spread C. iripa of the mangroves, which was enumerated as Cynometra ramiflora var. heterophylla by Thwaites and wrongly included in C. ramiflora by Knaap-van Meeuwen and the new species C. zeylanica Kosterm., formerly thought to be the Malesian C. ramiflora. The latter, as defined by Prain and based on a Rumphian plate, does not occur in Ceylon. Cultivated is the Malesian C. cauliflora with a white- and a pink-flowered forms.

Abstract

In Ceylon 4 endemic species of Vatica occur of which one. (Vatica obscura) occurs as a riverine species in the dry zone, the other three are restricted to the wet zone, two of them on well drained soils, one (V. paludosa) in marshy places. Vatica lewisiana is removed from CotyleloHuni and again asigned to Vatica. Vatica, paludosa Kosterm., sp. nov. is neither identical with V. roxburghiana, an Indian species, nor the same as V. chinensis L., a species of unknown origin, to which the Ceylonese material has been referred formerly.

Abstract

Five species of Mastixia are found in Sri Lanka, of which M. congylos and M. nimalii are here described for the first time, whereas M. tetrandra var. thwaitesii is raised to specific rank as M. montana. M. arborea does not occur in Sri Lanka. A key to the species is presented and the specimens examined are enumerated.
