Abstract

Indonesia is a tropical country that has a variety of plants, one of which is the succulent plant (Polyscias Scutellaria). Mangkukan plant contains flavonoid compounds, alkaloids, saponins, polyphenols, fats. This study aimed to determine the antibacterial activity of the ethanol extract of the leaves of the Mangkokan (Polyscias Scutellaria) against Propionibacterium acnes bacteria. The tests were carried out through the stages of collecting materials, preparing simplicia, making an ethanolic extract of Mangkukan leaves, and testing the inhibitory power of basil leaves against Propionibacterium acnes bacteria. The manufacture of ethanolic extract of the leaves of the Mangkokan was carried out by the maceration method using 96% ethanol. Antibacterial activity testing was carried out using the agar diffusion method using disc paper. The results of the study based on the results of phytochemical screening showed that the simplicia and ethanol extract of the Mangkukan leaf contained alkaloids, flavonoids, glycosides, tannins, saponins, steroids/triterpenes. Meanwhile, the results of the antibacterial activity test of the ethanolic extract of the Mangkokan leaf have antibacterial properties against Propionibacterium acnes at extract concentrations of 30% (6.74 mm), .35% (6.84 mm), 40% (7.26 mm), 45% (7.32 mm), 50% (8.68 mm) with medium resistance zone. The positive control used 30 g chloramphenicol disc paper with an inhibition zone diameter of 21.89 and the negative control used 10% DMSO solution which had no inhibition zone. The ethanol extract of basil leaves has antibacterial activity against Propionibacterium acnes bacteria.

Abstract

Hair dye is a cosmetic used in hair makeup to color hair, either to restore the original hair color or change the original hair color to a new color. Jamblang bark contains dyes and produces tannins which are used to dye textiles. The purpose of this study was to determine that Jamblang bark extract could be formulated as a hair dye. Hair dye preparations contain Jamblang bark extract with concentrations of A (2.5%), B (5%), C (7.5%), and D (10%). Observation of color stability was carried out by means of a stability test against 15 washes and exposure in the sun for 5 hours on colored hair, then an irritation test was carried out. This study shows that a formula made with Jamblang bark extract can give hair a brown color. The longer the immersion of gray hair in hair dye preparations, the darker the resulting brown color at a concentration of C (7.5%). The results of stability tests against washing and sunlight showed that there was no change in hair color and did not cause skin irritation. Jamblang bark extract can be formulated as hair dye. The best dye was obtained from Formula C which consisted of 7.5% Jamblang stem bark extract producing a dark brown color.

Abstract

One of the medicinal plants is ginger. The ginger plant has properties in overcoming pain, but it is not yet known how big the percentage of the strength of the analgesic activity of the ginger plant is. The components consisting of oleoresin are a complete picture of the content of ginger, namely essential oils and fixed oils consisting of gingerol, shagaol, and resin. Mice were divided into eight treatment groups (CMC 0.5%, Acetosal, EEJM (Red Ginger Ethanol Extract) 100, EEJM 200, EEJP (White Ginger Ethanol Extract) 100, EEJP 200, Combination 100, Combination 200). orally. Animals were induced with 3% acetic acid. Pain is characterized by the emergence of stretching which is indicated by the abdomen touching the base of the footing and both pairs of legs being pulled back. Observe stretching at intervals of every 10 minutes for 90 minutes. The characterization of red ginger rhizome simplicia and white ginger rhizome has met the requirements set by the Indonesian Herbal Pharmacopoeia. The results of phytochemical screening showed that simplicia and extracts from red and white ginger rhizome contained alkaloids and triterpenoids/steroids. The results showed that all treatment groups had an analgesic effect, which was not significantly different from the acetosal treatment (P>0.01). The highest analgesic power and effectiveness was seen in the EEJM 200mg/kg BW treatment group.

Abstract

Flavonoids are a class of polyphenolic compounds that have an antioxidant effect by donating hydrogen atoms and linking them with metal ions. Most flavonoids are found in plants. One of the plants that contain lots of flavonoids is andaliman (Zanthoxylum acanthopodium DC). The purpose of this study was to determine the compounds contained in the Andaliman leaf and to determine the total flavonoid content of the Andaliman leaf extract. The type of research conducted was descriptive, including identification of plant material, collection of plant material, phytochemical screening, and examination of total flavonoids with visible ultraviolet spectrophotometry. Samples were taken from LobuSiregar village, Siborong-Borong, North Tapanuli. Andaliman leaf extract (Zanthoxylum acanthopodium DC) was obtained by the maceration method using 96% ethanol. Determination of total flavonoid content was carried out by the colorimetric method. The results of phytochemical screening showed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, and steroids. Determination of total flavonoid content calculated as quercetin with the regression equation y= 0.03278 X + 0.04086, and r = 0.99825. The measurement results of the total flavonoid content of the ethanol extract of Andaliman leaves were 39.65 ± 0.08 mg QE/g.
