Abstract

ABSTRACTHabitat Reconstruction of Bali Starling Leucopsar rothschildi Stresemann 1912 in WesternPart of Bali Island. Bali Starling Leucopsar rothschildi Stresemann 1912 is an endemic speciesof north western part of lowland of Bali Island. The land use changes of original habitat BaliStraling to resettlement and agriculture area since the year 1980, has caused this speciesmoved to the marginal habitat in the Prapatagung Peninsula and resided in Telukkelor areas. Inwet season this bird in Prapatagung Peninsula can have enough food from vegetation in themonsoon forest in Telukkelor, but in dry season the birds must look for the food in evergreenforest near Prapatagung. At the end of 2005, this species was categorized as an extinct speciesin the wild, but population in captured are still abundant. In 2007 and 2008, the release of thisbird in the nature has been done in Prapatagung peninsula area. In following year birdmonitoring showed that some pairs of these birds can breed sucessfully. The development of Bali province has caused the end of adding more the electrical powersupply from Java electrical power system. To transmite the electrical power to Bali, extra highvoltage electrical power transmission infrastructure (SUTET) that will be passing and cuttingthe lowland forest ecosystem in Prapatagung Peninsula is needed. Other infrastructures suchas Jawa–Bali bridge and high way were under studied to develop in similar area. Theinfrastructures were assumed will decrease the carrying capacity of evergreen forest insupporting Bali Starling food especially during dry season. Based on the recent condition, study on the habitat recovery of Bali Starling should was conducted especially on the originalhabitat that already changed. The results showed that local state land tenure of Sumberklampok,Sumberbatok, Tegalmuara and Tanjunggelap as in the past known as Bali Starling habitatshould be returned back their function as home of Bali Starling. To support this action plantinventarisation has been conducted to understand the rest of plant diversity in supportingBali Starling conservation.Key words: Bali starling, Leucopsar rothschildi, reconstruction, habitat.

Abstract

ABSTRACTLand Use Model of Moti Island, Ternate, Moluccas: A Vegetation Based Spatial Design Analysis. The Moti Island was dominated by mountain areas and humitropepts soil type which havehigh organic matter and low subsoil base saturated values. Geologically, it is a volcanic rockwith andesite composition includes lava, breccias and tuffs volcanic. Combined with highrainfall, width of island (24.6 km2) and very steep mountain (950 m asl.) the island has becomefragile when not well managed. Compared to the other district, the productivity of this area waslow because the natural resources have not been well developed yet. The shortage ofbiodiversity data of Moti Island has become major obstacles in developing Moti Island. Thisresearch was conducted to develop land use models as basic knowledge for spatial designanalyses of Moti Island. Detail discussion on developing Digital Elevation Model of land useand slope area based on vegetation data was presented in this paper.Key words: Moti, land use, digital elevation model (DEM), spatial designing analyses

Abstract

ABSTRACTVegetation structure and composition of Bali Starling (Leucopsar rothschildi Stresemann,1912) Habitat at Labuan Lalang monsoon forest, Bali Barat National Park. Research wasconducted in Labuan Lalang monsoon forest, Bali Barat National Park in May 2010 to identifytheir vegetation structure and composition of plant species communities in this area. Thisinformation was important as basic data for developing model for habitat reconstruction ofendemic Bali starling birds (Leucopsar rothschildi Stresemann 1912). Several ecologicalparameters information such as name species, frequency, density and abundance of individualspecies were collected for qualitative an quantitative analyses. The result showed that 93 species belonging 84 genera and 37 families were found in this area. Some plant species were recorded as endangered such as Strycnos lingustrina, Helicteresixora, Protium javanicum, Rauvolfia serpentina, Zanthoxylum rhetza, Ziziphus rotundifolia,Ceriops tagal, Flacourtia indica, and Santalum album. The important species that composedin this forest were dominated by Grewia ericocarpa , Schoutennia ovata (Tiliaceae) andfollowed by Vitex trifoliata and Abutilon indicum. The species diversity and evenness indexof Shannon-Wiener indicated that species diversity in this forest were not too high and thepopulations on unstable condition. Principal Coordinat Analyses (PCO) on the tree height andaltitude data of every tress showed that tree species associated to Bali starling were found onthe 10 – 25 m tree hiehgt community and occupied in the area of 40 – 60 m asl. The problems andreal condition of the area as the habitat of Bali starling were discussed in this paper.Key words: vegetation, species diversity, Bali starling, Bali Barat National Park
