Abstract

People awareness toward nutritious food through the consumption of fruit is rising. Therefore, it needs the increasing of seed availability, either from the planting expansion or cultivation technology development. The productive life of papaya is around 3 years, so the rejuvenate of plant takes relatively quickly. However, the obstacle occurred comes from the adequate life of seed availability and the limitedness of homogeneous seed. Therefore, young seed forced to be used in the field will cause the growth of the plant not in unison. Moreover, it is also not profitable if it is considered from the cultivation of seedlings, since the price of the seed will be cheaper. This research aims to get papaya’s seed which can grow fast and uniformly using growth stimulant substance just like gibberellins that is easy to get and cheap. The experiment studies using concentrations of union juice as the substance to soak the planting material seed of papaya before it is planted. The test of durability and germination speed toward 10 seeds on opaque paper in a petri dish germination medium which the diameter is 11,5 cm. The experiment of seeds growth uses completely randomized design (RAL) in a factor of water treatment, the concentration of union juice is 5, 10, 15, and 20 ml l-1, and 10 ppm gibberellin. Every treatment (experimental unit) consists of 8 seeds planted on the traypot (combination of plastic pots, which each size about: on the surface and high 5,5x5, 5x5,5 cm, pots base 2,5x2,5 cm, an each traypot consists of 32 pots). Thus, there were 8 unit experiments for each traypot, and every single unit of experiments is repeated 3 times. Traypot and petri dish are put beneath the roof in the terrace protected by paranet 65% with 2,5x1,5x2,0 m (length, width, and height) in size. The union juice which is potential is used as the substitute of plant growth regulators gibberellins in papaya seedling. The response of papaya seed toward union juice with 15 ml l-1 concentration is equal to 10 ppm gibberellin, occurred in germination (durability and speed of germination) and the seed growth (the root length, the stem diameter, number of leaves, and biomass weight).

Abstract

Cauliflower is one of the popular vegetables and has high economic potential. The need for vegetables is high but the productivity is increasingly starting to decline due to narrow land. Hydroponic technology does not require fertile are. Hydroponics of cauliflower expected to increase economic value. Bagasse has characteristics wet and easy to absorb water is very suitable as a media hydroponic substrate. The experimental research was held out from August 2016 until February 2017 in the screen house of the Faculty of Agriculture, Sebelas Maret University, Surakarta The experiments using complete randomized design with 2 treatment factors consisted of various nutrients (2 types) and media (3 types) resulting in 6 treatment combinations, each repeated 3 times. Nutrient types are standard nutrients and modified nutrients (standard K reduction nutrients).The types of media types are bagasse, bagasse + gravel, and bagasse + red brick fractions. Bagasse + fragment red brick showed better yield on volume of root, large of leaf, biomass of plant and age of flower. While the highest of plant on media bagasse + gravel.

Abstract

Punung is a village in Pacitan Regency which potentiall for cultivating of cocoa, on the contrary it produces low seeds quality. This condition is caused by unintensive fertilization and low light intensity caused by shading. The effort to increase cocoa seed quality was by light compensation and the use of nitrogen (N) fertilizer. The purpose of this reseach was to determine of optimum N dosage fertilizer for inproving seed quality. The research was arranged in Completely Randomized Block Design with one factor which is the varies N dosages (0 as control, 820, 870, and 920 gram plant-1 year-1), level of radiation represented as blocks. Nitrogen fertilization was applicated three times. Fertilization of P (SP36) and K (KCl), 1390 and 1000 gram tree-1 year-1 respectively. The observation variables are soil character, micro climate, leaf anatomi, physical and chemical seed quality. The result showed that N fertilizer influenced positively toward increasing potassium (K) content in leaf tissue on the first and second month, while on the third month no significant influence toward N, P and K content. However there was preference of increased N, P and K content in leaf tissue on each month although in small rise number. In the leaves tissue, there was detected that nitrogen proportion was larger than potassium and phosphorus. N fertilizer increased the physical and chemical seed quality (protein and fat content). Optimum dosage was 870 gram tree-1 year-1, highest weight of 100 seed (146 gram) and seed quality was categorized as grade 1.
