Abstract

Podsolic soil is acidic soil, low nutrient content, especially N, P, K, Ca, Mg. One of the efforts that can be done to overcome this problem in soil is the addition of organic material. The addition of organic material bokashi rice straw and oil palm empty fruit bunches (TKKS) compost can add nutrients in the soil such as nutrients N, P and K. This study aims to determine the effect of rice straw bokashi and oil palm empty compost applied to Podsolic soils. The method used in this study was a single Randomized Complete Design (RAL) with the treatment of dose of 0 t ha-1 (bokashi and TKKS) 3 t ha-1, 5 t ha-1, 7 t ha-1 (bokashi) and 1.5 t ha-1, 3 t ha-1, 4.5 t ha-1 (TKKS). The results of this study indicate that the application of rice straw bokashi and TKKS compost has a significant effect on N-ammonium and P-available.

Abstract

Critical land is land that is no longer productive from an agricultural perspective, because management and use do not consider land management requirements and soil conservation principles. This research aims to assess the level of criticality of land based on the level of erosion that occurs at various coal mining land locations in several districts in South Kalimantan. This research is non-experimental research using exploratory descriptive methods. The data collected is secondary data obtained through official publications from the Environmental Service and related agencies from several environmental documents of coal mining companies that have received approval from the authorized Agency. The secondary data used is the data needed to calculate the amount of erosion which is used as a basis for evaluating land criticality. These data include: soil texture, permeability, bulk density, rainfall, slope and slope length, management factors, land cover vegetation factors and soil organic C. Erosion estimation uses the Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) method. The results of erosion calculations using USLE show that in open mine land in Banjar Regency it is 233.9 tons ha-1 year-1, while in Tanah Laut Regency is 173.1 tons ha-1 year-1 and in Kotabaru Regency is 275.1 tons ha-1 year-1. The level of criticality of land in the mining area is at a critical and very critical level compared to natural land and cultivated land due to differences in erosion values and also the thickness of the soil solum studied.

Abstract

Although ultramafic rocks are widespread in Indonesia and have the potential to influence soil properties, studies on the genesis and properties of soils formed from these rocks, especially to understand the characteristics of the lower defining horizon or endopedon, are still limited. This study aims to identify the endopedons formed, which developed from the ultrabasic rocks. This research is descriptive, soil profile points are determined by purposive sampling method by considering that points are true ultrabasic rock distribution. Observations made in this study include observations in the field and observations in the laboratory. The data from the description and laboratory analysis were used as reference for identifying endopedon. Endopedon determination refers to the Keys to Soil Taxonomy 2014 , the twelfth edition. The oxic horizon in Profile-1 is found at a depth of 7 cm to 37 cm from the soil surface with the horizon codes Bo. The Oxic horizon in Profile-2 is located at a depth of 20 cm to 106 cm from the soil surface with the horizon codes Bo1, Bo2. Latosolization is the process that causes the formation of the oxic horizon. The study site is also an area with a wet tropical climate that supports the formation of the oxic horizon.
