Abstract

Abstract - The aim of this study is to explain an investigation over the potential relationships between integrator and grower involvement towards business performance in broiler production. The potential role of employees skill levels as moderating variable between the aforementioned independent and the dependant variables are discussed. Broiler supply chain practices and its corresponding performance indicators in the form of broiler farming operations are among the important measures in the dependant variable (business performance). Based on the extensive survey of relevant literature, a research framework is then proposed. The inclusion of integrator involvement (antecedent), the skill levels (moderating variable) and business performance (dependent variable) in the proposed framework is the main contribution of this study. It is expected that this study will be beneficial to broiler industry, relevant policy makers and the growing body of knowledge of supply chain investigation in the livestock businesses. Keywords: supply chain, broiler, supplier involvement, integrator involvement, grower involvement and business performance

Abstract

Maintenance has become an important aspect in the manufacturing environment. There are a number of new technology and advancement in the manufacturing industry which can improve daily operations and production. In order to ensure smooth daily operations, the aspect of maintenance must be given a priority. A quality-oriented preventive maintenance practices such as preventive maintenance team, preventive maintenance strategy and planned maintenance can help to avoid any potential stoppages and disruptions of equipment from occurring in their daily operations. Preventive maintenance (PM), utilises total employee involvement in the maintenance activities. Operators and all employees should be actively involved in a maintenance programme that enable to avoid any disruptions, breakdowns, stoppages, failures, and so forth in order to improve manufacturing performance. Therefore, in the highly competitive manufacturing industries, the ability and reliability of equipment that well-maintained is very important in order to achieve desired performance. Furthermore, several studies in the literature argue that further research is required in the area of maintenance and operations management. This study investigates the extent of PM practices in the Malaysian Small and Medium Enterprises manufacturing organizations and to investigate the relationship between PM practices and performance. The hypotheses were analysed using Smart PLS and some important findings were discussed. The results imply that PM practices significantly improved manufacturing performance. For instance, PM strategy was positively and significantly related to financial, innovation and organizational capabilities. However, there were few research insignificant findings found for example planned maintenance is insignificant with innovation. Furthermore, the contributions and limitations of the study also discussed accordingly

Abstract

This paper explores the influence of Preventive maintenance (PM) practices namely; Time-based maintenance (TBM); condition based maintenance (CBM); Predictive maintenance (PdM); on Malaysian manufacturing sector.  The reason behind these PM integration on manufacturing performance is to obtain efficiency in minimize the error of production operational activities and machine breakdown in promoting effective towards realizing the goal of organization performance. Moreover there are many studies has proved that PM acted as a prominent paradigm to improve the manufacturing performance to gain further competitive advantage. Thus this research analyse the influence of Preventive maintenance (PM) practices on manufacturing performance in terms of cost, Quality, flexibility and delivery. This study employed quantitative analysis. From total 600 questionnaires distributed only 155 questionnaires was retuned. The Smart-PLS was used to analyse the data. The overall analysis shows that preventive maintenance practices (TBM; CBM; PdM) was positively contribute to the Malaysian manufacturing performance. The result will help Malaysian manufacturing companies in improving manufacturing performance through PM practices to compete in global market.
