Abstract

The project-based learning model is a learning model which in its implementation can teach students to master process skills and their application in everyday life. This learning model is the center of the learning strategy because students learn the main concepts of knowledge through project work. Project work is central to the learning activities carried out by students in the classroom. Project work carried out by students is based on questions or problems that lead students to find concepts about certain fields. Therefore, the activities become external motivation that can generate internal motivation in students to build independence in completing tasks. This study was conducted to leverage students’ writing skills through conducting the project-based study integrated with the WhatsApp application. This study revealed that students’ writing skills improve significantly from the first cycle and the second cycle after the implementation of project-based learning integrated with the WhatsApp application. This study implies that teachers should utilize project-based learning in teaching writing more intensively.

Abstract

Recently online learning has been developed widely in Indonesia and most of the education institutions implemented online learning during the covid-19 pandemic. The purpose of online learning is to facilitate communication in the delivery of teaching materials in the field of education that is carried out remotely. It is generally intended for non-face-to-face teaching methods. This study was conducted to investigate the usefulness and the challenges encountered by the teachers in implementing online learning. This study made use of qualitative research design with descriptive analysis and to collect the data semi-structured interviews and online classroom observations were conducted to collect valid and reliable data. This study found that there was the usefulness of online learning which benefits students to improve their competence and also there were a number of challenges encountered by the teachers. Therefore, this study implies that teachers should acknowledge the challenges of online learning to create a better online learning activity.

Abstract

Academic writing is arguably the most important skill in academic contexts and also the most difficult skill for most students to master. Consequently, extra learning efforts are necessary to be carried out by the students to ensure that their acquisition up to the present academic requirement. This study was conducted to find out the acquisition of students’ academic writing skills. Study was conducted in Indonesian classes consisting of 30 students as the sample of the study which were selected by random sampling technique. Valid and reliable research instruments in the form of essay test was administered to the sample to collect the required data. This study found that university students of Indonesian classes have sufficient acquisition in academic writing. Therefore, this study implies that academic writing of the students should continually be improved to ensure that the students have higher acquisition in academic writing.
