Abstract

This research aimed to know the effectiveness of the implementation of problem based learning model viewed by students mathematical communication ability. The design of this research was posttest only control group design. This research population was all students of grade 8th of SMP Xaverius 2 Bandarlampung in academic year of 2014/2015 that was distributed into four classes. This research samples were students of VIII-B and VIII-C class that were selected by purposive random sampling technique. This research data were gotten by mathematical communication ability test that were analyzed by proportion test. Based on the result of data analyzes, it can be concluded that viewed by students mathematical communication ability, problem based learning model was not effective but it was more effective than conventional learning.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas penerapan model problem based learning ditinjau dari kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa. Desain penelitian ini adalah posttest only control group design. Populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VIII SMP Xaverius 2 Bandarlampung tahun pelajaran 2014/2015 yang terdistribusi dalam empat kelas. Sampel penelitian adalah siswa kelas VIII-B dan VIII-Cyang diambil dengan teknik purposive random sampling. Data penelitian ini diperoleh melalui tes kemampuan komunikasi matematis yang dianalisis menggunakan uji proporsi. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data, disimpulkan bahwa ditinjau dari kemampuan komunikasi matematis, model PBL tidak efektif, namun lebih efektif dibandingkan dengan pembelajaran konvensional.Kata kunci: kemampuan komunikasi matematis, konvensional, problem based learning
