Abstract

Sugarcane is one of commodity plants that can grow well in dry land. Sugarcane plantation area at Cinta Manis is approximately 25,000 hectares. The purposes of this study were  to determine the effect of wild flowering plants on sugarcane and the presence of parasitoids.  This study was conducted in PTPN VII Cinta Manis  South Sumatra, from February to September 2012. The results indicated that wild flowering plants in Cinta Manis sugarcane plantations consisted of 28 families and 91 species. Observation and identification of wild  flowering  plants conducted on 1 ha plot obtained as many as 23 species, 8 of which are the most dominant species, namely Borreria alata, mitracarpus hirtus, Cyperus tunuiculmis, Cyperus plavipus, Richardia brasiliensis, Cleoma rutidosperma, Ageratum conyzoides, and  Spermacoce remota. The presence of wild flowering plants had no effect on weight, length, diameter and number of segments of sugarcane. Number of egg parasitoids of sugarcane pests found on land with and without the wild flowering plants as much as 1,489 and 1,508 pieces respectively. Number of parasitoids  larvae were found on the land with and without the wild flowering plants as much as 343 pieces and 234 pieces respectively.

Abstract

The biggest obstacle sugarcane in Indonesia, including in South Sumatra and centers Cinta Manis sugar cane plantations that attack shoot borer (Scirpophaga nivella (F.). The study was conducted from July to December 2012 in PTPN VII Cinta Manis South Sumatera. One ha land observation area. Observation plots were divided into 5 plot diagonally into 5 plots each measuring 200 m2 with a population of approximately 1500 sugarcane stalks, performed every 2 weeks old plants of 1.5 months to 6.5 months. The research purposes were observing damage of sugarcane shoots by shoot borer (Scirpophaga nivella). Experimental research methods, data were collected purposively and directly at the affected plants. Hoist length formed by shoot borers from leaves to growing points was the 18.47 cm. Place of imago out mostly on the 3rd and 4th segment. Length of drilled stem was 8.20 cm. Damage caused by shoot borer could made totally dead or made siwilan on sugarcane.

Abstract

Chili (Capsinum annum) is a horticultural plant that is useful as a spice in the kitchen, besides containing vitamins that are good for health. This study aimed as an effort to make jengkol skin agricultural waste useful by adding chicken manure organic fertilizer at different doses with the potential to increase growth and yield of chili plants on acidic dry land. The field experiment was conducted on the land of the Food Crops Agriculture Office, Gandus District, Palembang from March to May 2022. Randomized factorial group experimental design with 2 factors, namely the first factor: the dose of Jengkol Peel Biochar fertilizer (B) consisting of: B1 = 5 tons/ha, B2 =15 tons/ha, B3=25 tons/ha. The second factor: the dose of chicken manure (K) consists of: K0 = 0 (without fertilizer chicken manure), K1 = 10 tons/ha, K2 = 20 tons/ha, K3 = 30 tons/ha. Growth and yield were observed by measuring plant height (cm), stem diameter (cm), number of productive branches (branches), chili weight per plant (g), chili weight per plot (g). The best trial was obtained in the combination treatment dose of 15 tons/ha of jengkol peel biochar fertilizer and 30 tons/ha of chicken manure, which was the best treatment for the growth and production of chilies, with a yield per plot of 343.5 g/plant or equivalent to 10.99 tons/ha.
