The research focuses on communication barriers between Sundanese ethnic communities and Minang ethnic communities in Bukittinggi. This research is motivated by the issue of what communication barriers are felt by Sundanese ethnic communities while living or settling in Bukittinggi. Various kinds of communication barriers felt by the Sundanese ethnic community make the communication process that occurs not run properly, in other words the communication process only runs without any reciprocity from the recipient of the message. It is clear that the language used is different from the language commonly used by Sundanese ethnic communities, even though they have used Indonesian, sometimes there is still language that is difficult to understand, coupled with the accent and articulation also has some differences. The purpose of this research is to find out how the communication barriers of Sundanese people with Minang people in Bukittinggi. The type of research used is field research with a descriptive qualitative approach. The location of the research conducted was in Bukittinggi City. While to analyze the data the author uses data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions. The results of the study found that there were nine communication barriers that occurred between the Sundanese community and the Minang community in Bukittinggi, namely, physical, cultural, perception, motivation, experience, emotion, language, nonverbal, competition.
