Abstract

Tafsīr al-Qurānul Karim by Abdul Halim Hasan, Zainal Arifin Abbas and Abdurrahim Haitami who are known as Ulama Tiga Serangkai of Binjai is one of the less-studied Archipelago exegesis works. This could be related to the exegesis's scarcity, which is presently only found in private collections and a few libraries. This interpretation originated in 1937 at Madrasah al-‘Arabiyah, which is located in the Great Mosque of Binjai. Given that this exegesis was written during the transitional period of the Dutch colonial government, which was, incidentally, non-Muslim, and the period of the Indonesian state government, it is worth investigating how the mufassir views issues of inter-religious relations to the discourse of religious moderation. This study discovered that the mufassir's moderate views live in their commentary works through content analysis of their exegesis and data from interviews, observations, and documentation. The moderate viewpoints and discourses discovered are still useful for use in today's religious life.
