Abstract

Differing from its predecessors that tend to have conventional media, Generation Z tends to choose digital media especially social media to obtain information. This study aims to get explanations behind the shifting pattern of such media access. Specifically this study aims to reveal the kinds of information accessed, the using patterns of digital and conventional medias, and the reasons behind Generation Z's choices of media. This research uses the theory of information consumption patterns and the Uses and Gratifications theory by Katz, Blumer, and Gurevitch. This study employs a mixed-methods of quantitative and qualitative in a sequential explanatory strategy. A survey takes 400 students of four high school of Semarang city is followed by a series of Focus Group Discussion (FGD) involving 20 students chosen purposively out of the respondents. The results show that Generation Z tends to access information through digital media, particularly through social media platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. The main topics of information sought by Generation Z, in order, are entertainment, health, and education. Generation Z tends to use search and exploration features on digital media to obtain information efficiently and effectively. These findings align with the Uses and Gratifications theory, which emphasizes media selection based on users' specific needs.

Abstract

The phenomenon of generational transition has given rise to a shift in perception and marriage patterns among women as a group that is culturally attached to this issue. This study aims to examine the meaning of marriage experienced by women across generations. Meaning emerges along with human efforts to develop themselves and their minds in social life as the Symbolic Interaction Theory used in this study. Through interviews with six respondents from two different generations, namely the Old Generation with a birth range of 1947-1980 and the Young Generation born around 1981 to the present and have reached the legal age for marriage, this study reveals that the shift in meaning occurs as a product of their experiences in socializing and consuming different information. The interpretative paradigm applied in the interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) method helps researchers interpret the differences in the meaning of marriage from two groups of women related to several aspects to produce conclusions; 1) both generations position marriage as a sacred institution, although the Younger Generation emphasizes optional and contextual values, 2) there is a view from the Older Generation that marriage completes happiness, although in the majority non-material welfare is seen as being under the control of the individual, 3) both generations agree that marriage has the potential to present an economic burden, although the Older Generation considers marriage to be still relevant in creating financial stability, 4) a happy marriage can only be achieved if there is no domination by one party, either husband or wife, 5) the presence of children is not seen as something natural by the majority of informants, although there is an opinion from the Older Generation that children must be present in marriage, 6) the perception of the Younger Generation is formed from the accumulation of information about their offline and online activities, while the previous generation only relied on physical interaction.

Abstract

This research is motivated by data from the Ministry of Manpower in 2022, showing that employee productivity in Central Java is low compared to other provinces in Indonesia, where Central Java ranks 27 out of 34 provinces. The district in Central Java that has a lower level of employee productivity compared to other districts is Jepara Regency. The research method used is explanatory quantitative research with a total sample of 100 respondents who are employees in Jepara Regency, aged 17-56 years, and have more than 1 year of work experience. The data collected were analyzed using two techniques, namely the Chi Square and Kendall's Tau B tests. The results showed that there was no relationship between leadership style and employee productivity (significance value 0.091). However, there is a relationship between communication patterns and employee productivity (significance value 0.04). In addition, there is a relationship between job satisfaction and employee productivity (significance value 0.00).

Abstract

In this era, technology has become one of the most advanced innovations in making daily activities easier. With a world that is always moving, there is always room for technology to develop in all aspects, one of which is transportation. Because motorbikes offer a variety of flexible and affordable price options compared to other transportation methods, motorbikes have become one of the most popular methods of transportation and are the people's choice. The number of people who own motorbikes is increasing every month due to the fact that motorbikes are a practical way of transportation. In this process, a problem arose that the PT Astra Honda Motor eSAF frame became rusty and broke easily. This is very disappointing for customers because PT Astra Honda Motor is committed to providing the best products and quality. However, this fact shows that the promised product and quality failed to meet expectations, which of course harmed PT Astra Honda Motor's customers. The theories used in this research are New Media Theory and also e-WOM (Word of Mouth) Theory, with a sampling technique in the form of non-probability sampling, with a total sample of 100 people with characteristics of men and women, aged 16-64 years, and who had been exposed to news about the issue of PT Astra Honda Motor's eSAF frame being rusty and breaks easily. The results of hypothesis testing using a simple linear regression technique show that there is an influence between exposure to news about PT Astra Honda Motor's eSAF frame which rusts and breaks easily and brand image on Twitter on the level of consumer confidence regarding the quality of PT Astra Honda Motor's motorbikes with significance values in both hypotheses. of 0.000.

Abstract

he anime Koe no Katachi is a character development movie themed, where the protagonist, Ishida Shouya, changes into a better personality after he bullies the deaf individual character, Nishimiya Shouko. This research aims to see how Ishida Shouya's character development process is depicted in the Koe no Katachi anime and find out the movie strategy/logic used in developing the protagonist's character. This type of research is descriptive qualitative with a narrative analysis method using the concept of The Positive Change Arc from K.M. Weiland to see the stages of Ishida Shouya's character development. Petrie & Boggs Character Identification Theory is used to analyze the character through the viewpoint of conflict and characterization. The results show that the movie uses three main strategies in developing its protagonist's character: (1) Bringing down the protagonist from a stable position, (2) Bringing up the character's redemption efforts after experiencing the fall, and (3) Bringing up the character's acceptance of reality. Researchers found some shortcomings: (1) Simplification of Karma in the Narrative, (2) Ignoring the Potential for Collective Recovery, and (3) Risk of Glorifying the Redemption of the Main Character. Nevertheless, overall, the Koe no Katachi anime successfully depicts an individual's journey of redemption through a complex and in-depth narrative.

Abstract

Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) cases, caused by mosquito-borne dengue virus infections, particularly Aedes aegypti, remain endemic in many countries, especially in tropical countries like Indonesia. The number of DHF cases fluctuates from year to year. Even though DHF cases have decreased this year, there is no guarantee that they will continue to decline in the following years. Semarang is no exception, as it is one of the areas experiencing a dengue outbreak. The Semarang City Government, along with various sectors, has made efforts to reduce the spread of Aedes aegypti and dengue through public awareness and education programs, as well as mosquito larvae eradication activities. Despite the implementation of programs to control the mosquitoes that cause DHF, there has been no significant progress in reducing the number of DHF cases. This research aims to clarify the relationship between knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors in efforts to eradicate mosquito larvae, particularly in the Semarang area. An explanatory research type and survey method were used in this study. The study population consists of residents in Meteseh Village who have received and participated in the socialization activities on mosquito larvae eradication (MLE). This research employed a non-probability sampling technique, and the sampling method used was accidental sampling. The data collection process was conducted by distributing questionnaires. The research results showed that the relationship between the level of knowledge about the socialization program on mosquito larvae eradication (X₁) and attitudes toward socialization (X₂) with community based Aedes aegypti mosquito eradication activities and dengue fever (Y) indicates a relationship. This was demonstrated by the results of Kendall’s tau (????) analysis, based on calculations using SPSS version 26, which produced a significance value of 0.00 and < 0.05, thus confirming the existence of a significant relationship.

Abstract

Until now, many cases of domestic violence (domestic violence) still occur among women in Indonesia. According to CATAHU Komnas Perempuan and KemenPPA, violence against women most often occurs in the domestic sphere or in the household. Abused women often find it difficult to end the relationship even though they know and feel the impact of the violence that their spouses do to them. Therefore, this research aims to analyze the stories of women who experience domestic violence in overcoming obstacles and difficulties in breaking off a marriage relationship until successfully leaving the relationship. This research is a qualitative research that utilizes Todorov's narrative method by conducting interview upon three women who experienced domestic abuse and had left the marriage. The results of this study reveal that since before marriage, every partner of the informants used destructive aggressive communication that caused informants to receive emotional and physical abuse when they did not do things as their partners told them to. However, the informants decided to stay and get married because three things, they already felt in love with their partners, did not want to fail again in a relationship, and got pushed by their parents who were already fond of the partner's background. Aggressive communication patterns recurred in the informants' marriages. Moreover, the violence they experienced also escalated. However, they still decided to stay in the marriage. At this point, the informants had entered a cycle of domestic violence because the informants eventually normalized the abuse that they received, had a positive perception of marriage after having a discussion with a friend and received repeated persuasion efforts from their spouses. The process of dissoluting the relationship began after the informants felt dissatisfied towards the communication proccess in a conflict with their partner that caused relationship dissatisfaction. Informants then reported the domestic violence to the police, took care of the divorce, and asked the husband to leave the house. Then, two informants will experience dialectical proccess which resulted in tension and negotiations to fix the relationship. When two informants' spouses did not fulfill the negotiation condition, the process of relationship dissolution finally continued. One informant used avoidance and manipulation strategies when her husband refused to end the relationship. This informant eventually continued the divorce process. The other two informants who were initially still waiting for their husbands' resolution efforts tried to fight the urge to stay and finally take care of the divorce. The other two informants used negative identity management strategies to communicate their desire to divorce and end their marriage. After the divorce process was completed, the three informants finally focused on building a better life by doing positive activities.

Abstract

Electability surveys are a trend in politics where they can lead public opinion to certain candidates. From several electability survey news, many of them show that Ganjar's electability tends to decline. This will harm Ganjar in the process of becoming a presidential candidate in the 2024 election, where the news can affect their attitude in voting. This study used an explanatory quantitative research type. The theory used in this study is Integration Information Theory. The results of the hypothesis test showed that there was no effect between the information valence variable (X1) and the information weight variable (X2) on the tendency to elect variable (Y) with a significance value of 0.084 where is more than 0.05.

Abstract

Traditional, patriarchal masculinity has reinforced rigid, authoritarian male roles, often leading to emotional distance between fathers and their children. The advent of the information age has ushered in a new ideology of masculinity known as 'fatherhood', which emphasizes active involvement in family life and the cultivation of deeper emotional connections. This study examines the representation of fatherhood masculinity in the film "Hafalan Shalat Delisa" and analyzes the position of this ideology within the film. Specifically, it investigates whether traditional, patriarchal, and toxic masculinity persists within these representations. Employing John Fiske's semiotic analysis, the research will explore the signs and forms of representation within the film.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the problem of the number of tourists in Wonosobo Regency after the Covid-19 pandemic which has not reached the target. If based on data from Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS) Kab. Wonosobo, the percentage growth in the number of tourists from the last 3 years (2021-2023) has only reached 25%. To increase the percentage of the number of tourists, the Wonosobo Regency Tourism and Culture Office is aggressively promoting Wonosobo tourism through Instagram, but the results are still not optimal. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the intensity of accessing information and the quality of tourism information on the Instagram account @disparbudwonsobo on tourist interest in visiting Wonosobo Regency. This research is a quantitative study with explanatory methods and non-probability sampling techniques specifically using purposive sampling methods. Data collection was carried out by distributing questionnaires to 100 respondents with the characteristics of active Instagram users aged 18-34 years, have accessed tourism information, and have never traveled to Wonosobo Regency. To analyze the data that has been collected through surveys, SPSS 25 is used. The results of this study show that the intensity of accessing information and the quality of information affect tourist interest. This finding is in line with the basic concepts of Media Dependency Theory, Computer Mediated Communication (CMC) and Information Integration Theory.
