Abstract

Development is a multidimensional process involving transformations in social, economic, infrastructure, norms, and institutional fields with the primary goal of improving the standard of living of the people. One common issue found in the development process is the disparity that occurs due to high economic growth not being accompanied by equitable distribution. Java Island, with its superior contribution to the national economy and an economic growth rate that exceeds the national growth, is not exempt from experiencing development disparities. The purpose of this research is to analyze the variables suspected to influence development disparity in six (6) provinces in Java Island, namely DKI Jakarta, Banten, West Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta, and East Java for the years 2014-2023. The variables used are Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), Domestic Direct Investment (DDI), Human Development Index (HDI), capital expenditure, and economic growth. The research method employed is the Williamson Index and panel data regression. The research results indicate that the variable of capital expenditure has a positive effect and economic growth has a negative effect on development disparity. Meanwhile, FDI, DDI, and HDI do not affect development disparity.

Abstract

The income of the population of a society is important for welfare because it influences its ability to meet basic needs. In Malang Regency there are around 2,685,900 people with a GDP per capita of 43.73 million rupiah in 2022. This research applies a quantitative approach. The research results show that the Covid-19 pandemic, rising fuel prices, low levels of education, people's mindsets that care less about education, economic limitations, lack of employment opportunities, and climate conditions are the causes of the high number of poor people, low levels of education, and low levels of poverty. high open unemployment. The impact is an increase in crime, limited access to education, high levels of unemployment, poverty, and a decline in prosperous economic conditions. Apart from these factors, education has a significant influence on people's income. Community income is not significantly influenced by the number of poor people and the level of open unemployment. The Malang Regency Government has implemented various programs to overcome these challenges, including Indonesian Economic Heroes (PENA), creating opportunities for small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), the Malang Makmur equality education movement program (GERTAK Malang Makmur), the Smart Indonesia Card (KIP), labor-intensive programs, job training programs, and the Pre-Employment Card Program.

Abstract

The Southern Coastal Road in East Java has been projected as an alternative redistribution route and a key factor for accelerating economic growth. Its development, which has cost considerable amount of time and investment, is expected to be a transformative policy impacting various sectors. However, there has been limited research directly examining the development policy for this road in East Java. This study aims to analyze the role of the Southern Coastal Route in fostering inclusive regional economic growth across the 8 districts crossed in East Java. The research employs Panel Data Regression with a Random Effects Model approach. The findings are as follows: (1) The Southern Coastal Route in East Java has not yet been able to drive changes in the economic base sector; (2) This road has a significant positive impact on the growth of GRDP per capita; (3) Growth of GRDP per capita significantly reduces the poverty rate; (4) However, growth of GRDP per capita significantly positive affecting the open unemployment rate, indicating other factors influence this variable. The study suggests that local governments should focus on expanding employment opportunities, reducing poverty, reducing unemployment, and promoting economic growth through targeted investments and increased capital accumulation in high-potential sectors.
