Abstract

This research was motivated by children who rarely learn science because the activities carried out are not appropriate for early childhood. Science learning for young children is very important because it can build a strong foundation for their scientific understanding in the future. At an early age, the approach used in teaching science must be fun, interactive, and appropriate to the child's developmental stage. So the aim of this research is to find out the extent of children's cognitive abilities by carrying out simple science learning through play activities to get to know taste. The research method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative method, namely a method used to describe actual phenomena. To support this research, data was collected using observation, interviews and documentation. The results of this research are that there are five playing activities to get to know taste, namely exploring taste, matching taste, guessing taste, creating taste, and making a taste book. By doing these activities, young children not only learn about taste but also develop important cognitive skills such as problem solving, memory, and understanding concepts. Activities that involve this sense make science learning more interesting and interactive.

Abstract

Literacy is an individual's ability to manage and understand information through reading and writing activities. This skill is closely related to language skills because it includes aspects of speaking, reading, writing, counting and problem-solving skills. In other words, literacy includes language abilities and skills, including reading, writing, speaking, counting, and problem solving at a certain level needed in everyday life. This research uses a literature study approach as the main method of data collection. In the process, the researcher conducted an in-depth study and understanding of various relevant theories from literature sources.Today, in the digital era, digital literacy is a very important ability for elementary school students to have. The development of information and communication technology has changed learning methods, so it is important that students have sufficient ability to access, evaluate and use digital information effectively. Digital literacy of primary school students includes various important elements. Abstract

Abstract

The present study examines the effect of flash card media and learning-based problem-solving on the critical thinking skills of students in Science Lessons, Grade V, Elementary School. This is an experimental study with a quantitative approach. The method used is quasi-experimental. Research design is a non-equivalent control group design. The research population involved all the students in Class V of State Elementary School 060970 Medan Belawan. The research sample consisted of 44 students from Classes VA and VB. The research results showed that the independent sample T-Test analysis of the post-test classes, both experimental and control, yielded a significant result. (2-tailed) is 0.000 while the level of significance α = 0.05. The results show a significant value since the value (2-tailed) < 0.05, it is concluded that Ha is accepted and H0 is rejected. This indicates an effect on improvement skills, critical thinking, student class experiments, and controls. It can be concluded that using flash card media and problem-based learning affects these skills, particularly in Class V students of SDN Negeri 060970 Medan Belawan.

Abstract

This paper seeks to analyze the impact of the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach learning approach on the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills in third-grade pupils at SDN 104202 Bandar Setia. This research employed a quantitative method with a nonrandomized pretest-posttest control group design, involving two groups: the control group (III A) without treatment and the experimental group (III B) that received the RME learning approach, with a total sample of 50 students. Both groups were administered pre-test and post-test instruments to measure problem-solving and critical thinking skills. The findings revealed that the application of the RME learning approach significantly improved both skills with p < 0.05. These results confirm that RME is effective in enhancing mathematics learning quality through real-life contexts and students’ direct experiences. The implication highlights the importance of integrating RME in elementary mathematics learning as an alternative strategy to foster critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, as well as providing a reference for future instructional innovations.

Abstract

Improving students' academic performance is a primary focus in higher education, with discipline in studying being a key factor that affects academic success. However, many students face challenges in time management and developing effective study habits. Therefore, this community service activity aims to socialize strategies for enhancing academic performance through study discipline. The socialization was carried out through workshops and seminars, covering topics such as time management, effective learning techniques, intrinsic motivation, and the use of digital technology to support learning. The activity involved students from various majors selected through purposive sampling, focusing on students with lower to moderate GPAs and those who lacked effective study habits. The evaluation was conducted using both quantitative and qualitative methods. The results of the pre-test and post-test showed a significant improvement in students' understanding of study discipline, with an average score increase of 28.75 points. Qualitative evaluation also revealed positive changes in students' study habits, such as better time management, avoiding procrastination, and using digital tools like time management applications. Furthermore, the level of student satisfaction with the activity was high, reaching 86.25%, indicating that most students found the socialization activity highly beneficial. Based on these results, this activity proved effective in enhancing students' study discipline and can serve as a model for improving learning outcomes in higher education. Moving forward, it is recommended to provide follow-up sessions and continuous support to help students consistently apply study discipline in their academic lives.
