Abstract

Abstract This research is based on the dependence on the daily activities of Tunagrahita students who are in the Terra Athena Ocean SLB, which is caused by intellectual limitations and lack of independent habituation, thus hindering the development of independence at school. The purpose of the research is to examine the role of teachers in improving self-building skills in Tunagrahita students who are currently in SLB Samudera Terra Athena. The approach used in this research is the descriptive qualitative approach. Data collection is collected through interviews and observations, then analyzed with data reduction techniques, data presentation, and conclusions. As for the data validity testing in this study using the triangulation method. Research results show that the self-building skills of Tunagrahita students can be formed, then improved by habituation and training consistently and repeatedly in school through the role of teachers as educators, facilitators and motivators Keywords: The role of a teacher, Moderate Mental Retardation, Self-building Abstrak Penelitian ini dilatar belakangi oleh ketergantungan dalam aktivitas sehari – hari siswa Tunagrahita sedang di SLB Samudra Terra Athena, yang diakibatkan keterbatasan intelektual dan kurangnya pembiasaan mandiri sehingga, menghambat perkembangan kemandirian di sekolah. Adapun tujuan penelitian adalah mengkaji peran guru dalam meningkatkan keterampilan bina diri pada siswa Tunagrahita sedang di SLB Samudra Terra Athena. Adapun pendekatan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif. Pengumpulan data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara dan observasi, kemudian di analisis dengan teknik reduksi data, penyajian data, dan kesimpulan. Adapun pengujian keabsahan data dalam penelitian ini mnggunakan triangulasi metode. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa keterampilan bina diri siswa Tunagrahita sedang dapat dibentuk, kemudian di tingkatkan dengan pembiasaan dan pelatihan secara konsisten dan berulang di sekolah melalui peran guru sebagai pendidik, fasilitator dan motivator.
