Abstract

The role of the family in shaping the moral and spiritual values of early childhood is crucial, as the family serves as the primary foundation for a child's character development. Children spend a significant amount of time with their families, particularly parents, who are their first role models in learning values, ethics, and the meaning of life. This study aims to explore how families influence the formation of moral and spiritual values in early childhood at home and identify factors that strengthen and hinder this process. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with 15 parents in Hutaimbaru Village, Padangsidimpuan, who have young children. The findings indicate that parents actively instill moral and spiritual values in their children through modeling, habituation, and guidance, recognizing that young children tend to imitate their parents' behaviors. However, challenges arise from external influences such as technology, gadget use, and peer interactions, which can affect children's behavior. When children exhibit deviant behavior, parents tend to respond with corrective measures through empathetic approaches, such as engaging in constructive dialogues. With a holistic and collaborative approach, it is hoped that children can grow into individuals with strong moral and spiritual character.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze the challenges faced by UIN Syahada Padang Sidimpuan dormitory students in improving their foreign language skills, especially English and Arabic as flagship programs. In addition, this study also explores the adaptation strategies used by students to overcome these challenges. Through a qualitative case study approach involving in-depth interviews and participatory observation, this study explores students' subjective experiences related to environmental constraints, motivation, access to resources, and social interaction in the context of foreign language learning in a dormitory environment. The findings show that the main challenges faced by dormitory children include the lack of an active foreign language environment, lack of supporting facilities such as books and interactive learning media, weak motivation to study independently, and limited guidance from the campus and dormitory management. In addition, differences in educational background and basic language skills are also inhibiting factors. This study recommends the need for the formation of a language community in the dormitory, the training of peer tutors, and the procurement of a routine foreign language coaching program that is integrated with dormitory activities. With the right strategy, the dormitory environment can be a potential forum for improving students' foreign language skills. The results of the research are expected to provide in-depth insights for universities and dorm managers in designing more effective interventions to support the development of students in foreign languages, which ultimately contributes to improving the quality of graduates at the international level.

Abstract

Building balance and maintaining mental health in the waves of challenges faced by students is an important issue that requires serious attention. The level of student stress is closely related to the motivation to learn and the academic pressure they experience in campus life. This includes developing awareness and skills to face challenges and maintain emotional balance. The method we use is a descriptive qualitative method that aims to understand students’ perceptions of a particular phenomenon. Data collection techniques are carried out using semi-structured interview guidelines so that the data obtained are more focused and in-depth. The data sources used in this study were students of UIN Syekh Ahmad Addary Padangsidimpuan. Students use various strategies to maintain their mental well-being, ranging from being active, such as exercising, worshiping, and managing time, to telling close friends and family and seeking social support. Strengthening social support is also an important solution. Campuses need to build supportive communities through the formation of discussion groups, support groups, or healthy student organization activities. Students from difficult economic backgrounds must also receive special attention through adequate social scholarships and financial assistance. The results of the study show that many students face high mental and emotional burdens, which have an impact on learning motivation, social relations, and mental health. This study emphasizes the importance of institutional support and a campus environment that is responsive to students’ psychosocial needs in order to create a more humane and sustainable educational ecosystem.
