It is important to know the connections between student's behaviour and literary learning in Malang City. Literary learning using competence-based curriculum needs accurate information related to student's acquisition on Indonesian short story texts. The picture of students's knowledge and emotion when they are learning contemporary Indonesian short story, influencing factors on students's acceptance pattern, literary learning activities conducting by teachers, school fascilities availability, and policies taken by the senior high school principals in Malang in developing literary learning are significant input to implementation of education. Generally, the students' acceptace on the three short stories which had been given before shown that the students had enough competence in comprehending them. From intellectual aspect, they have succeeded in expressing literary structure from the texts. Moreover, student's ability on their acquisitions toward Indonesian contemporary short stories cannot be separated from their teacher's ability in designing joyful learning eventhough there are insufficient literary books available.
