Abstract

This is a continuation of the previous reseach concerning naming. After understanding that naming in Gotputuk village represented a shift in language, the writer aims to conduct the research related to what are behind the names. The writer specifically wants to reveal the ideology or the view point of the villagers on Gotputuk village through the names given to their children. Using a questionnaire and a population record, the writer analyses 64 names. The result shows that the villagers who have children born in 2000 to 2010 chose certain names to negotiate two kinds of identities. Those are the global identity to increase the social status of their children and local identity to maintain the ideological value of the Javanese soceity. Keywords: naming, global names, ideology, identity
