Abstract

Research on the effect of ascorbic acid on the physiological status and efforts to reduce body weight loss on Bali cattle during transportation has been conducted in July 2011 in Campus Politani Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara. The goal of research is focused on the influence of ascorbic acid dose on the statu physiology and body weight loss of Bali cattle during transportation. The study was designed using the Random Group Design (RGD) 4 treatments and 6 replications. The treatment consist of dose levels of ascorbic acid (0 mg / kg body weight, 50 mg / kg body weight, 100 mg / kg body weight and 150 mg / kg body weight) with 8 hours of transportation using two trucks that has capacity 12 cattle/truck. Differences between treatment effects were tested using the Dunnett test. The results showed ascorbic acid showed significantly (P <0.05) lower loss body weight and showed no significant difference (P> 0.05) on the physiological status of Bali cattle during transportation. Treatment with doses of ascorbic acid 100 mg / kg of body weight, provides the lowest loss of body weight 4.083 kg (2.431%) and the smallest impact on physiological status of Bali cattle during transport.
