The objective of this article is to get to know the effectiveness of inquiry method in improving learning outcomes of Indonesian Language subject, particularly the reading skill aspect of class X students of SMAN 1 Bengkalis. This study is a Class Action Research (CAR/Penelitian Tindakan Kelas). Class Action Research is one of strategies in solving problem that utilize concrete actions and the process of developing ability in detecting and problems solving. In its process, all parties that involved mutually support each other, equipped with the facts and then analyzed. This classroom action research was conducted in three cycles. There are four stages in each cycle: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. In this study, the way to obtain the data is by collecting thescore of descriptive questions and observing the activities of students and teachers. The learning outcomes that obtained after the action by applying the inquiry method to the students of class X SMAN 1 Bengkalis shows that each cycle undergoes improvement. The completeness of individual and classical in the first cycle is 81%, the second cycle is 88%, and the third cycle is 97%. Besides, the absorption capacity of the first cycle students is 77,34%, the second cycle is 81,24%, and the third cycle is 84,78%.
