Village in Indonesia is the lowest governmental hierarchy which is directly in contact with community dynamics. Because of its autonomy, village has to be responsible to manage its own businesses for the interest of local communities. For this reason, the Indonesian government needs to make a bill on village which has been long to become aspirations of many villages in the country. In comparison to this, in Cina, although there is no need to regulate villages in from of law, the central and regional governments give priority to the development of villages. That is why there are many developed villages in Cina, particularly recently. This essay discusses village autonomy in Indonesia, and steps needed to be taken strengthen village autonomy.
