<![CDATA[ABSTRACTThe judge's independence is characteristic law of state. There are judge's who be under the protection with independence so thet abuse of power. One case happened to a Judge, with initials MA, who asked for sum of money to the circumcision whose case he handled. MA was eventually brought to trial on charges of corruption. He was guilty and sentenced two years in prison and fined Rp 50 millions IDR (fifty million rupiahs). This decision hurt the public sense of justice as the punishment was relatively mild, away from the proper provisions as contained in the Corruption Act. Such court sentence will not generate detterent effects to any law enforcer who is supposed to support government efforts to eradicate corruption. Namun, independensi itu juga menyebabkan sebagian hakim memiliki proteksi untuk menyalahgunakan kekuasaan. Salah satu fakta mendukung pandangan tersebut ialah hakim yang berinisial MA yang meminta uang untuk pesta khitanan anaknya. Kasus yang ditangani oleh MA terbukti adanya upaya penyuapan yang menjadi salah satu bentuk korupsi. Dia bersalah menerima uang Rp 50 juta. Kasus ini telah menyayat rasa keadilan dimana hukuman yang diterimanya relatif ringan dan tidak mengunakan undang-undang korupsi.
