Reality Not Imagination: Konseling Reality Therapy Membantu Penyesuaian Akademik

Abstract

Iklim akademik di perguruan tinggi menuntut mahasiswa memiliki penyesuaian diri yang mumpuni. Namun, tidak menutup kemungkinan terdapat mahasiswa yang kurang adaptif sehingga memengaruhi pencapaian prestasi akademiknya. Konseling dengan pendekatan reality therapy dapat digunakan untuk membantu mahasiswa menjadi pribadi yang lebih bertanggung jawab. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas konseling dengan pendekatan reality therapy dalam meningkatkan penyesuaian akademik mahasiswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode single case experimental design dengan perlakuan berupa pemberian konseling dengan pendekatan reality therapy terhadap seorang mahasiswa semester 5 yang mengalami hambatan penyesuaian akademik. Instrumen penelitian berupa skala penyesuaian akademik. Data dianalisis secara deskriptif dengan menggambarkan perubahan yang dialami subjek sebelum dan setelah mengikuti konseling. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa subjek mengalami peningkatan penyesuaian akademik setelah diberikan konseling dengan pendekatan reality therapy. Subjek mengalami kemajuan dalam memetakan target perkuliahan dan mampu menunjukkan kegigihan dalam meningkatkan penyesuaian akademik.Academic climate in Higher Education requires students to have a good adaptation, but it does not rule out the possibility that there are students who are less adaptive and thus affect their academic achievement. Counseling with the reality therapy approach can be used to help students become more responsible individuals. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of counseling with the reality therapy approach in improving student academic adjustment. This study used a single case experimental design method with the treatment in the form of giving counseling with a reality therapy approach to a 5th semester student who experiences obstacles in academic adjustment. The research instrument is an academic adjustment scale. Data was analyzed descriptively by describing the changes experienced by the subject before and after taking counseling. The results showed that subjects experienced an increase in academic adjustment after being given counseling with the reality therapy approach. Subject made progress in mapping the target lectures and were able to show persistence in improving academic adjustment.
