ANTIBACTERIAL ACTIVITY OF ETHANOL EXTRACT OF MARINE MICROALGAE Nannochloropsis sp. AGAINST Escherichia coli BACTERIA BY IN VITRO TECHNIQUE Marine microalgae has various advantages such as rapid growth and requires simple nutrients to grow and is able to withstand on various enviromental conditions. Some types of microalgae are having ability as antibacterial. This research aims to study the antibacterial activity of marine microalgae Nannochloropsis sp. against the Escherichia coli bacteria with the Kirby-Bauer diffusion Disk method. Nannochloropsis sp. grown for several days in Walne medium. The biomass of microalgae is dried and mashed into simplicia. Then, simplicia of Nannochloropsis sp. was macerated with 96% ethanol and concentrated by rotary evaporator. The results showed ethanol extract of marine microalgae Nannochloropsis sp. has inhibitory power against Escherichia coli bacteria. The average inhibition zone formed in the volume of extracts of 20, 30, 40, 60, 80 and 100 μL are 9.43; 15,13; 16.40; 17,82; 20.09; and 22.53 mm.Keywords: Nannochloropsis sp., Antibacteria, Escherichia coli Mikroalga laut memiliki berbagai kelebihan antara lain pertumbuhannya yang cepat dan membutuhkan nutrisi sederhana untuk tumbuhnya serta mampu bertahan pada berbagai kondisi lingkungan. Beberapa jenis mikroalga diketahui memiliki kemampuan sebagai antibakteri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui aktivitas antibakteri mikroalga laut Nannochloropsis sp. terhadap bakteri Escherichia coli dengan metode Disk diffusion Kirby-Bauer. Nannochloropsis sp. ditumbuhkan selama beberapa hari dalam medium Walne. Biomassa mikroalga yang diperoleh dikeringkan dan dihaluskan sehingga diperoleh simplisia Nannochloropsis sp. Simplisia tersebut kemudian di maserasi dengan etanol 96% dan dipekatkan menggunakan rotary evaporator. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan ekstrak etanol mikroalga laut Nannochloropsis sp. memiliki daya hambat terhadap bakteri Escherichia coli. Zona hambat rata-rata yang terbentuk yaitu volume ekstrak 20, 30, 40, 60, 80 dan 100 μL berturut-turut 9,43; 15,13; 16,40; 17,82; 20,09; dan 22,53 mm.Kata kunci: Nannochloropsis sp., Antibakteri, Escherichia coli
