Compétence et rencontre interculturelles en français langue étrangère

RÉSUMÉ. La notion de compétence interculturelle en didactique des langues a d’abord été associée à la prise en compte de la diversité culturelle dans l’éducation scolaire à travers l’éducation interculturelle, puis dans l’enseignement des langues par l’éducation plurilingue et interculturelle. Sous l’influence de la communication interculturelle, la compétence interculturelle a ensuite désigné les aptitudes communicatives et comportementales de l’apprenant. C’est cependant dans la rencontre avec l’altérité et par la prise en compte de sa dimension intersubjective qu’elle prend tout son sens. La compétence interculturelle se développe donc, chez l’apprenant, dans la rencontre interculturelle qui, en classe de langue, a lieu par l’intermédiaire des supports pédagogiques. Pour mieux comprendre ce phénomène, l’analyse de trois manuels de français langue étrangère nous donne un aperçu des conceptions et approches actuelles de la compétence interculturelle et des rapports entre compétence interculturelle et rencontre interculturelle. Mots-clés : altérité, communication interculturelle, compétence interculturelle, culture, éducation interculturelle, interculturel, rencontre interculturelle.     ABSTRACT. The notion of intercultural competence was first associated with acknowledgement of the cultural diversity in school education through intercultural education, and then in languages teaching through the notion of plurilingual and intercultural education. With the influence of intercultural communication on didactics of foreign languages, intercultural competence rather referred to communicative and behaviour aptitudes of the learner. However, the notion of intercultural competence started to play its full meaning within the encounter with otherness and when its intersubjective dimension was taken in account. Therefore, learner develops his intercultural competence within intercultural encounter, which takes place in the language class through the pedagogical resources. For a better understanding of this phenomenon, this article analysis three French foreign language textbooks in order to have an insight of conceptions and approaches of the intercultural competence and its relation with intercultural encounter. Keywords: culture, intercultural, intercultural communication, intercultural competence, intercultural education, intercultural encounter, otherness.
